Thoughts on MySims?

This is probably going to end up as a lost-cause thread buuut... what're anyone's thoughts on MySims?
There were a lot of elements that got scrapped from MySims, and those elements could've added some good depth to the game. The main game, at least... Embarassed

Prince of Persia Sprite Help

So i've just been messing with some sprite to learn about animation. I want to use the below as a basic template to edit but I can't put the sprite together correctly. If anyone has a better eye for this than me could you please put together the running animation from the below sprite sheet. I can get the arms correct but not the legs.

I've been looking online to see how much space a PS4 can see up to in regards to using the Media Player, and haven't had much luck.  Does anyone know for sure?  I have a 1TB portable harddrive, and I wanted to check first before I just hooked it up.

There is a very high chance I'm just being blind again, in which case you can just call me an idiot.

Star Trek Invasion (PS1) Model Ripping Help Please!!!

Hello there Smile I'm new in model ripping and I could use some help. As title says I need help for game Star Trek Invasion. It's old game dating in 2000. I tried to extract/rip models from game with no success. -.- 


Using tool called jPSXdec I managed to extract video/image/audio files but not models which are in TRK format. I know that because modelling software Milkshape supports importing TRK format of Star Trek Invasion.

Key for this game is RES file in which are all files and I can't extract it. Sad

My most heartfelt greetings,

My name is Nidonemo and I cam across this website while learning about the Steam Film Maker program.  I'm currently self-teaching a few subjects on Game Art and Design like world and level building, 3D modeling, and 3D animation.  My childhood dream was to become a game designer and I'm excited to finally be chasing it.  I have many, many ideas filed away awaiting to see the light of day.

I'm so happy such resources like yours exist, it's such a huge help and I want to thank everyone who contributes to the site and the forums.  I hope I can also help out the best I can and we can all continue to create and entertain the millions of people out there.

A little about me, I'm a creative writer of fantasy, comedy, fiction, and fanfiction.  My favorite things to write about are of course video games and comedic banter between characters.  I love to appreciate food, especially sweets and Japanese food.  My favorite video game genres tend to be RPGs, Adventure, and Life Sims.  My favorite animals are Foxes, Dogs, Wolves, and any creature that can appreciate a cuddle (yes I think Alligators even fit into that category). 

I absolutely love to make people happy, be it through laughter, a warm smile, encouraging word, or sarcastic banter.

I'm looking forward to playing together with you.

How do I use models from here in Blender?

Now before my question, this is what I have done so far:

-YES: I have googled several things, but results kept turning up the same answer of how to import Garry's Mod models into SFM, or how to open files in general in Blender, and nothing was helpful.

-YES: I did read the website FAQ, unfortunately the answer was very vague, as in it covered everything by telling me to "google it" and of course that already didn't help as stated above.

-YES: I "tinkered with it", by trying to use Blender to open the files, but none of the files actually show up in the file browser window.

My question:

Being the impulsive and excited newbie to SFM, Blender, and making posters and short films, I went through the VG Model site as well as one or two others that I found, and downloaded a bunch of various models from different games like I was on a shopping spree.

Now when I unzipped them and opened the folders like a kid on Christmas day, I found unfamiliar filetypes like ".mtl", ".smd", ".rda", ".skp", and ".obj" staring back at me.

I know what to do with resources that I find on SFM-specific websites and the Steam Workshop, you usually just drag and dump the files into the usermod folder after unzipping them, but I have no clue how to use the files I found here at all. So it left me confused and frustrated.


So how does one use filetypes like ".mtl", ".smd", ".rda", ".skp" and ".obj" in SFM or Blender?

I have a lot of new toys and I have no idea how to play with them yet.

Welcome, forum users, to my very first edition of Neon's Top 5! Where I list the Top 5 things about topics that are trending, or about my personal interests.

So it's now 2016-or as passengers of the Hype Train are calling it, "The Year of Virtual Reality"-and with it comes various pages on the internet talking about how it will change the future of video games, entertainment, sex....whoops! Did I say that last one out loud? Embarassed However, there are some people (*points to self*) that believe all this VR nonsense is overrated, and some believe it will never become a big success like people make it out to be.

Which is why today I'm bringing you:
The Top 5 Reasons Why Virtual Reality will fail in 2016...at least to me.

#5. It's Too Expensive
One of the primary arguments that people who love VR have towards people who don't is "You haven't tried it yet." Well, I'll tell you the reason why we haven't tried it yet: We can't afford it. Seriously, have any of you even seen how much these VR headsets cost? I sure have. Recently, the dudes responsible for the Occulus Rift have revealed the price for their consumer product to be around $300...and no, I am not trolling you, that's really how much the Rift's gonna cost ya. Don't even get me started on the prices of all the other VR headsets out there. Unsure

Look, I don't care how rich you creators are. No normal human being can make that much money in such a short timespan. Considering how the United States' economy is currently standing, you're just digging your own debt graves pal. To all you VR enthusiasts who wanna try this tech out yourself, better start getting a well-paid job or rob a few banks `cuz those $300 dollar or so headsets ain't gonna hit the Walmart clearance aisle any time soon!

#4. Peripherals and The Necessary Technology
Remember the Power Glove? How bad it was, both metaphorically and literally? If you do, you'll remember that all Mattel showed to the public was the glove itself-what they neglected showing you was the awkward sensors you had to place on your T.V.

So what does that have to do with VR, you might ask? Well, it's because VR headsets will feature the same clunky peripherals for it to work. For example, Valve's HTC Vive originally involved players sticking weird bar-code stickers all over the walls of their room for it to work. Since Gaben thought it would be too confusing for new players, the stickers were swapped out for a pair of wall-mounted cameras, which I feel is even worse than the stickers (I don't think the cameras are set to follow your every move, like most security cameras do.).

And what happens if you, say, lose one of those expensive peripherals or break it? Unless your that spoiled, bratty, tiara-wearing bully of a child who lives with a filthy rich family, your probably gonna have to send your bank account to Money Heaven.Sad

Then there's the technology needed for VR to work. What kind of computer are you currently using to view this website? Chances are, it's specs probably don't match the ones needed for your Rift or Vive or whatever the hell you're using. To put it bluntly, you need to have the strongest and fastest computer in the whole wide world in order to get the full experience of VR. Godspeed, you magnificent bastards.

#3. Health Dangers
One of the Underlying problems with VR is the psychological impacts it will have on the human body; some good, most bad. Specifically, the effects of nausea. The primary reason why the Virtual Boy wasn't a hot seller is that it was prone to giving players eyestrain, headaches, and motion sickness. Unfortunatly history is known to repeat itself, as numerous people who tried out the Occulus Rift have also reported to have similar symptoms. Now I've heard that developers have found a way to fix the nausea...but I don't think they truly have-Nature has its own Game Genie. Wink 

Not to mention that when you're in the Virtual World, you'll pretty much lose all connection to the real world. Oh sure, that road in Skyrim may look straight and clean, but chances are there's actually furniture, appliances, plants, pets, and even people that you don't notice on your VR adventure. There's a reason why Congress doesn't allow us to text and drive...

#2. Limited Uses
I'm probably gonna get flakked for saying this, but I just don't see how VR will change the world drastically, mostly because there's not that many practical uses for it. We already know about video games, but what about other types of media? I read somewhere that VR will let people tour the world from their home-yeah, because saving up money for plane tickets or cruise passports is sooo last year. If that happens, there's gonna be a lot of commercial airlines and cruise ships going out of business.

And Don't even get me started on Virtual Sex...*shutters*. Long story short, if you wanna make sweet love, do it with a real person.

#1. It's overrated
I remember how back in the early 2000s, nobody really talked about VR...now we can't seem to get everyone to shut up about it. Unimpressed Everywhere you look, there's people who keep droning on and on about how they can't wait for the Rift/Vive/Cardboard/whatever, and frankly it's driving me insane!

Can we please stop hyping about Virtual Reality for just a minute? It's not gonna become mainstream in the same manner as iPhones do, and it probably never will for the next five or so years.

So there you have it, the Top 5 Reasons why Virtual Reality will fail in 2016. Keep in mind that much like the six main characters of MLP: FIM, this list is not perfect. If you're the guy that loves VR, then good for you-stay you, because you're the best you can be. However I'm trying to convince new consumers to think twice before blindly climbing aboard the Hype Train, and see just how bad VR could actually be.

Ripping from .WAD files?

The Emperor's New Groove stores its level data in .WAD files. I didn't find this out by opening the .WAD files to see what's inside them, I found out by noticing that the number and naming of wad files matches the levels of the game. Here's what the inside of the game's "wads" folder looks like.

I've searched the internet and found numerous supposed .WAD file converters but I've gotten none of them to work for these files. For example, I've tried converters made for .WAD files for the game Doom, but I guess those .WAD files are different since these .WADs won't work with the Doom .WAD converters.

How to use uneven sprites?

Hi guys. I'm a programmer who's interested in game dev, so I'm trying to start with 2D. Spritesheets make sense to me when used programmatically, so I thought I would try to use some from SR. The thing, though, is that all of the sprite sheets in the tutorials I've used have been uniformly spaced, and you knew the sizes of each sprite beforehand.

But with a spritesheet like this one, there are things like a watermark on the sheet, and the different animations are different sizes.

I've been Googling a lot, and I'm still confused.

Should I just split it into different sheets, and then try to work out the frame sizes myself? Or is there an easier way? Thanks in advance, really appreciate the hard work you guys do.

Monster Sprites for someone's project

I'm working on sprites for this person's Pokemon-esque game on another forum. These three are starter monsters. Instead of going with a Grass VS Fire VS Water theme, I decided on Nature VS Technology VS Magic theme for them. The first one is a porcupine, the second is a raccoon, and the third is an opossum.

I'm showing them here for tips. I looked up a tutorial on shading and looked at several Pokemon sprites and tried to make sprites in a style different to that of Pokemon. Do they look alright?

aa hello. i have this action replay code for harvest moon: animal parade and it changes the date and season in the game but i cant remember how to use it!
