Problem with MKV files

$

I upgraded my computer not long ago and now I'm having a lot of trouble getting MKV files to work. I'm using both Windows 7 and Windows 10, both on different drives, and they both have their own problems when trying to play them. I'm using both Shark007 codecs and Media Player Codec Pack as they have both worked very well for me in the past with no issues, allowing me to play MKV files in Windows Media Player without hassle, but I have had to reinstall both of them several times due to a few finicky issues, namely having stupidly installed the Advanced version of 007 codecs onto an old drive which I then removed, meaning I couldn't install it properly without it trying to upgrade a version that didn't exist anymore.

In the past I also converted the MKV files into MP4, since my video editor of choice doesn't support MKV files, using Any Video Converter free, as it has also worked very well for me without hassle. However it has since stopped being able to convert MKV files at all without crashing on both versions of Windows.

Additional details:

My MKV files are in 720p and 1080p quality, and all of them have subtitles which could be switched on and off in WMP without issue before I upgraded, IIRC, as well as converted in AVC to have separate MP4 versions with and without subtitles.

The MKV files do not have any details when viewing properties in Win10

In Win7, trying to play any of the 720p files EXCEPT ONE gives the error:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer". The single 720p file that works and the 1080p files play fine. Neither types have subtitles when played.

In Win10, 720p files either play sound but have no video (just a black screen) or do not play at all, 1080p files play normally, neither have subtitles.

Attempting to convert either of them with AVC in Win7 causes it to progress to about 1% and then crash with the basic "Any Video Converter has stopped working" error.

Attempting to convert with AVC in Win10 gives the error:
"Runtime Error"
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\AnvSoft\Any Video Converter\AVCFree.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

My craptop can play all the MKV files fine with subtitles as well as convert them with AVC. It is using an older version of Media Player Codec Pack but does not have Shark007 codecs installed. I have tried downgrading and uninstalling codecs various times on my current computer to no avail.

Any help getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Wham! Biff! Pow! -- The Comics Thread

I don't think we have one of these yet.

Hopefully I'm not the only who reads comics. Aha... So I thought it would be cool to have a comics thread like we do for movies/anime/games. What is everybody reading?

To be honest I'm not really keeping up with anything current as far as monthlies... I find it difficult for me to keep track of a series from one week/month to the next without forgetting about it in the intervening time (the only exceptions being some shows, but even those I tend to let build up and binge at various intervals throughout the season). The only comics I read as they update are Dumbing of Age, which I kind of just found by accident one day, and Cyanide & Happiness. But those update daily... so even though I want to be into other comics like TwoKinds, I don't usually keep up with them and end up just binging through a year's worth of updates on a random weekend.

Right now my "Big Comic" series that I'm working on finishing is something First Comics published in the mid-1980s called "Mars". I picked up an issue at Free Comic Book Day a couple of years ago, and it was interesting enough for me to order the graphic novel collection (in paperback unfortunately... the hardcover is stupid expensive).

It's an interesting scifi tale that isn't very heavy reading, but it covers some interesting concepts (like technology assisting human beings in overcoming physical handicaps). Even though it sometimes strays a little too far into "Acid Trip" territory, I'm actually going to recommend it--particularly to people who are interested in comic books but aren't really into either the manga or superhero scenes.

Having Fun Isn't Hard When You've Got a Library Card! -- Reading Thread

We don't have one of these either, as far as I can tell. Maybe nobody reads. I know I have to make myself do it sometimes, with all that other flashy, brightly colored media, with sounds calling my name.

But books are great too, and I find the act of reading a paper book can be therapeutic.

Recently I finished a book called "The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss" which is a pretty cool story about an amateur private eye who gets roped into an MMO murder mystery, but I won't talk about it too much beyond that because I actually know the author and don't want to feel like an infomercial. The short is that I enjoyed it, though, and I think some of you guys might have fun with it as well.

Right now I'm working through Batman: Knightfall, which I found at a consignment shop in Illinois... when I picked it up, I didn't realize it was just a novelization of the Bane storyline from the comics. The prose makes me feel inadequate as a writer, but I do catch myself getting a little tired of how wordy it can be... Which is actually a common elements I've noticed with media tie-in novels. I don't know if the publishers are pushing for wordiness in order to make the books actually "feel like" the stereotypical idea of a book to audiences who don't normally read unless something happens to relate to another one of their interests, or if it's on the part of the authors. Either way, it's a little slow-going because of that... and it's not so great otherwise. The best moments so far are fleshing out Bane's history and how he manipulated things while in prison, but I'm actually not too enthralled with the Batman parts. Maybe it'll pick up.

What are you guys reading?

Are sprite comics dead?

(don't know if this should be posted in creative but at any rate)

Are sprite comics dead?I mean, I haven't gave a shit about them in a LONG time myself, but I remember when they were a THING, like , there were a million sprite comics and everyone who read them wanted to make their own, nowadays.... Mystic Forest Zone gone .... Bob and George done.... basically every comic ever written just vanished , i don't know when.

it is  fate, that the sprite comic, and the art of the sprite comic will vanish into obscurity, as all the sites are shut down and erased and it will only exist in memory of the ones who were there ... the ones who lived it.

Multi-file Convert for ATRAC9 Files

So, I have 22,000 files to convert (just for one thing I unpacked!), but the program I have to convert them does not handle * wildcard, meaning I need to convert files one at a time.

Needless to say, this isn't going to really work.

I've used the following .bat script, but it's not working:

Code:
for %%f in (*.wav) do at9tool -d %%f %%~nf.wav

If someone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks in advance.

EDIT: IIIIIII'm an idiot. Figured it out; just needed to change %%~nf.wav to %%~nf_convert.wav so it didn't overwrite itself.

Some things just don't get any love. Give me your case for why a bad guy needs their own valentine card, and I'll choose a few of them.

All right guys, I need some serious help. This is a vital part off my project to figure out how to extract models and textures from this game. There's a lot in this game I need for specific purposes, and I can't make heads or tails of the files. I can only assume they contain typical NIF files, which are a semi-common format. I just can't figure out how to get anything useful out of them. Here is a sample file.

My previous thread here got completely de-railed and out of control.
(and to be honest, nearly everyone that commented there, including myself, caused this...)
That said, let's forget it even exists!

So, I'm back for now.
Will try to return to some of my projects here.
First priority of those is that damn Secret Santa thing I owe.
I originally had intended to finish that when it was due.
Then, Life happened... and it's still been happening.
And then, another incident occurred here.
This doesn't make for great motivation to do artwork, either (except maybe, vent-art)

Anyways, I think I'll be fine for now...
hopefully...

Hey everyone, just want to start out by saying that I have no way to get this game, and don't even know if this can be done before the English release, but nevertheless I wanted to at least start a conversation on how possible this is and what we would need to make it happen. it being a digital game i'm sure doesn't help that and the fact it's only Japanese right now but I still want to see what you guys think about the do ablility for this. sorry if the tittle of this thread is slightly click baity, but at least I didn't go with my first choice.

Rip some sprites for me and I'll use them in a death battle type animation

Yo, I need sprites for Garnet from the mobile game Attack the Light for a minute-two minute animation I'm working on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...nrpg&hl=en
Usually I just try to find the sprites on google images or use this site, but as of now no one has ripped the sprites that I can see. So I made an account here to see if someone who actually knows how to do this kind of stuff. You rip the battle animations for me, I'll use it in an animation and credit you. Thanks in advance!

I've tried opening this with programs that say they are compatible with the .mesh type, but they all give errors (I.E 3D object converter gives the "stream read error"). Does anyone know a way to open these files?

Well, I can officially say that I'm the user with the lowest rep. Sad

With a reputation of -10, that's as low as you can get.

I don't suppose there's anyone else who has a lower rep than me, is there? Question

Anyone else scared of "Puppy Monkey Baby?".

If you don't know, it was Mountain Dew's insane way of trying to "appeal" to people. By making something so dumb, it appealed to no-one.

Hello dear friends.

I'm from Brazil.
I have this passion for old (but not bad) games and since an year ago I have this weird idea of reproduce the games of old videogames like NES and Atari, for example.

For this reproduction, I pretend to use the Python language with PyGame library.
My intention is to reproduce those games as similar as possible of the original ones.

Looking in the internet for sprites I found the VG-Resource and, I have to say: What a web-site! Amazing! Congratulations for the creators.

In the future I pretend to do a simple web page to share my developments...

Thank you.

Skyla's Sound Cloud

Meant to do this last night, but I passed out after the last file was uploaded.  W-whoops.

Anyway, this will be a spot for my sound rips.  I often do pretty big games with lots of files in fairly huge batches, so I'm not going to link each file one by one.  I'll just list the title of the game and let you know what's been updated.

Here's my current stuff:

Persona 4
Persona 3
Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth
Persona 4 Dancing All Night
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass is the only one on that list that's actually complete sob.

My to do list:
  • Finish ripping PQ
  • Finish P4DAN
  • Start P4G
  • Japanese audio for P3 and P4
  • Find a way to rip Persona 4 Arena and Ultimax
...eventually I'll do something that's not Persona related.  Maybe.

I'm willing to offer up around 40 to 80 USD for a method to unpack these. Payment depends on output accuracy. I'm looking for something simple.
