Hello everyone! As I'm sure you were immediately able to tell, we have launched the new version of our site! With this new layout comes the long-awaited counterpart to our new game icons - the sheet icons!

Many of the sheets/models/textures in this updates posted with the launch are already taking advantage of this new format. We aren't quite finished with the conversion from our old style icons yet though so you'll still see those around the site as well. We've done our best to make them fit in as much as possible but just know that they're temporary and in the process of being replaced. If you'd like get involved in this process, check out this thread for more info.

So, enjoy the new site, the new icons, and keep an eye on the forum tomorrow for more details about our new submission process and more information on getting involved in the renovation! We know the drastic layout change will take a bit of getting used to so, as always, leave us your feedback and bug reports below.

Quote:Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic created by Yacht Club Games. You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade; a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

However, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress at any cost!

I don't want this particular issue to be forgotten just because of the wipe so I'm reposting it here. The original master post is here and there's a lot more on the rest of that account. Also, apparently his mom has also inadvertently involved herself so this should be interesting.

How on earth do you rip Pikmin models?

Hello, all. This is my first post on these forums (conveniently timed after the forums got reset. Smile ). I must say, I LOVE the entire vg-resource and I must applaud them for the incredible work they've done. The quality of the sprite, sound, model, and texture rips are all astounding. There's hardly ever a moment when I can't find something I need from a game thanks to you. And the wonderful designs of the websites make it extremely easy to find something I need. So, yeah. Thanks. Big Grin

But, to get right down to the point, the other day I found myself addicted to the New Play Control version of Pikmin, and for complicated reasons, I decided I wanted to try and see if I could Pikmin-type game working in Unity 3D. So, naturally, I wanted some models from the game and the first place I checked was here on the good ol' models resource.

To my surprise, the only Pikmin-related resource I could find was an unused mario model found inside the game!

I proceeded to Google everything I could think of in hopes that I'd find just one pikmin-related model. But, surprisingly, I couldn't.

I decided to delve into the problem myself. I popped my New Play Control version of Pikmin into my Wii along with a clean 8 GB USB flash drive, freshly formatted to FAT. I ripped the iso to the flash drive using CleanRip, and ran it in Dolphin to ensure everything ripped correctly (and admittedly played some Pikmin on my PC in full HD. Smile ). Next I used Dolphin's wonderful filesystem utility to extract the contents of the iso.

There were all the models! Right out in the open! Not in an archive or anything! --Or so I thought. Turns out all the models are there, but they're in this weird .mod format. I've never seen this format used for anything in my life except for Quicktime video, so this kind of surprised me.

I figured the internet would know all about these mod files and how to import them into, say, blender. But no matter what I tried I couldn't find any info on them! I even tried searched for converters and blender import plugins, but my searches still were fruitless!

So, that's why I'm here. I'm hoping one of the geniuses here knows just what these .mod files are and how to get them into Blender. Thanks in advance for your time, and I hope we can finally figure out these odd files. Wink

This is where I'll post my sprites, obviously.
[Image: XoaI1Oe.gif][Image: 355vlfY.gif]
[Image: OwqrBm8.gif][Image: rIPEbfV.gif]
I made some sprites of Phoenix Wright in his design and poses from Ace Attorney 5. I'll eventually do more, but only his out of court sprites, since somebody else is doing the in-court sprites. They're kind of in the Apollo Justice sprite style, but with brighter colors.

That's Batman in the style of the Ace Attorney games (partially edited from Acro, from Ace Attorney: Justice for All) planned to be use in a fancase I'll never finish.

If Mickey Mouse was in a fighting game. Not my best work, not my worst.

Classic Sonic in Sonic Advance style. I think I made this as an example for somebody else who was doing a similar project.

A while ago I did a "personal challenge" where I resized sprites and stuff. I could probably do a lot better if I did them now. I'd like to hear what you guys have to say.

I also do 3D stuff.

This is a Dance Box that I made, rigged, and animated by myself. It's really simple, but I like it.

Another simple model based after a character I made up for a school project. His name is "Detective Cell."

This is just texture and slight model edits. There are a bunch of pictures, so I'll just link to the album: http://imgur.com/a/uV9MH#0
As it says in the description, the original models and textures were made by the talented the-regressor.tumblr.com

I made an Egg Robo that's (mostly) custom:
I made everything but the gloves. The actual hands are from Mickey Mouse (I think from Epic Mickey?) and the cuffs are from another Sonic game.

Here's a Batman (head) from a while ago (there's PLENTY wrong with this one)
It was supposed to be in the Kingdom Hearts style, but it didn't work out too well.

Orbot is completely custom except for, again, the hands. They're from Sonic's model from the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games... games.

A model of Emmet from the LEGO Movie. Ignore the fact that the picture's flipped horizontally.

Unikitty, also from the LEGO Movie. Their faces are made out of polygons instead of textures so that I could move them around any which way I wanted.

A model of Sonic that I made where the only things not made by me are the hands. ...As you can probably tell by now, I don't know how to model hands yet.

1/4 model edit, 3/4 texture edit. ..Chip from Sonic Unleashed as Midna. The parallels are interesting.

And finally, for funsies, Link's clothes from Skyward Sword edited onto Sonic's Colors model. The textures are all brighter, too.

N64 Texture Ripping Tutorial

$

Copy/pasting since there's no longer a tutorial section.

I was looking for some good tutorials for N64 texture ripping when I first started, but couldn't find any, so I decided to make one!

Required Programs

1.Project64
2.RiceVideoPlugin
3.Any N64 rom
________________
Setup

Once you download and install both programs move all of the files from the RiceVideo folder to the section called "Plugin" in the Project64 folder.
Now run the actual Project64 program. Once there, press Ctrl+ T or click options and then "Settings".
You'll get a window like this...
If you moved the RicePlugin files correctly it should show up in the "Video (graphics) plugin" options when clicked. select "Mudlord's Rice Video Build 6.1.4" and you are now are free to exit the window.

Ripping the Textures
Now that you've set everything up, you're now ready to extract the textures!
Open the rom, that you downloaded before, in the Project64 program. You now want to play the game itself until you get to the specific place you want the textures from.
I'll be using Kirby 64 for this tutorial.
You'll want to click "Configure Graphics Plugin..."
Place a check mark in the "Dump textures to files" box.

Remember the texture_dump folder you created? If you've done this all correctly, the textures that are being extracted from the game should be appearing in that folder!
That's basically all you need to know, just repeat the process for any rom and it should work fine!

=TIPS=
Occasionally you'll have games that do not utilize the control stick, you'll need to assign control keys for the "digital" section of the "Configure Controller Plugin..." menu.

If there is anything I can do to make this tutorial easier to understand, let me know! Smile

Gotta make me a new home. These graphics aren't new, and are going to be replaced as mentioned in the previous pages of the older thread, but I wanted to try out a sweet program Lexou Duck linked me to to capture GIF video, GifCam.

Quite nice indeed. Thanks for the reference! I can use this to show how things animate in the world when I get there with my other projects, without having to make a Youtube Video.

So yeah! Post away!

NDS Model Ripping Tutorial

$

0
Greetings everyone! Mystie is back for another Nintendo ripping tutorial! Last time, I taught you how to rip sprites and textures from Gamecube and Wii games. This time, I'm going to teach you how to rip models (and textures) from NDS games.

Pictures are not included this time around because I am on a very tight schedule, but I might edit this post later and include them.

What you'll need:
  • NDS ROMs (of course)
  • Console Tool
  • MKDS Course Modifier
  • A modeling program (if you're rich, or if you can find a cracked version that actually works, use 3DSMax. If not, then settle for Blender like me)

Step 1. Open Console Tool.

Step 2. Click on "File > Open", browse to where you have your ROM(s), choose the one you want, and open it.

NOTE: It may take some time for the program to load the ROM. Be patient.

Step 3. Browse through the folders until you find an .nsbmd file. Most of the time, they are found within a folder named "3d" or "models". Click on the .nsbmd file once, then click the plus icon next to the filename (if available) and click on the texture (.nsbtx).

Step 4. Double-click on the .nsbmd file for a preview of it. Close the preview, right-click on the file, and choose "Export". The model and textures (if available) will export to the folder that your ROM is saved in.

Step 5. Open MKDS Course Modifier and browse for the exported model file, then open it.

Step 6. In the window that appears, click on "Export > Model > OBJ". Now browse to where you want to export the .obj, and export it. (You can also choose to export the bones if you wish, but this function does not work very well for me)

NOTE: The model may not appear in MKDS Course Modifier's model viewing window. No need to worry, as the model actually is there, the view is just scrolled too far out.

Step 7. With your modeling program of choice, open the exported .obj to see if everything turned out right. If need be, re-add the textures and re-export the .obj.

And you're done! Wasn't that easy?

Now before I go, here is a list of NDS games that I know support the .nsbmd/.nsbtx/.bmd0 formats. If you know of any more that use them, please tell me and I'll add them to the list.
  • Animal Crossing: Wild World
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender (I've only looked at the first one, but I'm guessing the other two use .nsbmd as well)
  • Brain Age 1 and 2
  • Custom Robo Arena
  • Donkey Kong: Jungle Climber
  • Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
  • Elite Beat Agents
  • Inazuma Eleven 2: Firestorm
  • Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days (stored within .p files, but these can be opened easily)
  • Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
  • Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
  • Mario Kart DS
  • Medarot DS
  • New Super Mario Bros.
  • Nintendogs (I've only looked at Best Friends, but I assume all of these games use this format)
  • Okami-den
  • Pac-'n-Roll
  • Pac-Man World 3
  • All main series Pokemon games
  • Sega Superstars Tennis
  • Soul Eater: Medusa no Inbou
  • StarFox Command (textures are stored in a separate folder however)
  • Super Mario 64 DS (models are in a .bmd format rather than .nsbmd or .bmd0. MKDS Course Modifier can open them, but cannot export them)
  • Super Monkey Ball: Touch 'n Roll
  • Tomodachi Collection (stored within .bin files, but they can be opened easily)
  • Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2
  • Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble!

Yeah, after noticing the mass reorganization of things, I decided to make some things and start this thread back up again. I'll be posting new things as I make them. Many of these things will be used in my projects, but you're free to use them so long as you give credit.

So, to start off, here's a slightly redone version of the monitor sprite I made a few months back:
