So I've wanted to rip sprites from this game for the longest time and I think I know which file has them: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1fq9dbdxont2jrr/main.rsb

What I have just linked is the largest file in the entire app folder, which I have in my downloads. I, however, possess no knowledge of how to open the above file, as it is a .rsb file, which I'm not sure how to deal with.

Would anyone be able to assist me in finding a way to correctly get the sprites from this thing? Any assistance is much appreciated.

(If this is in the wrong place I apologize)

Are pixels too big in independent games? Time to decide in an official community discussion!


I for one believe that pixels should be the size of pixels. Maybe even smaller depending on the circumstance, but never more.

I'm still new on Drawing or painting, yet, for the encouragement from some of my friends on Pixiv, DA and Tumblr, well, I end up practicing, but I did learn on the wrong way of normal drawing. Even do, I keep practicing.

Some months ago a friend of my, Kupopo, well, I ask him if he could do me a drawing of "Jecht on is own style" for being curious about how he gonna drawing. Well I was right, he truly did an amazing work (and that he told me it was an sketch)

So, after that, I did ask him a week ago about if I can paint it, because I'm bad for make drawing from 0.
To know why, I end up making part of it without need of "line art". even more, I did end up doing on an style I never though I know. So here's, the big-size version of the in progress of the Collab I'm doing with Kupopo:

In anyway, I need to fix, or redo all the face, I still think its... well, not so well done compared with the one Kupopo did. and well, finish it up too...

Apart Dark

just change your forum theme dude, jesus


This one's simply a remix of the default Apart themes, with a darker spin on them for those who prefer darker themes, but can't as easily get behind BoHeGeHa. It's a serenade of dark colors, with fancy text shadowing to make the stark contrast of light-text-on-dark-background a little more managable.

It's got a nice medley of blues that allow for a cool reading experience. It's like applying AXE in highschool, but to your eyes.




Now, you probably won't see Apart Bohemia for a little while, because I'll deliver the source to the sheet after...things happen. You know, things that should happen on VGR.

Now, here's the reason I made this topic: I got a little more creative (okay, not by much lol) and created~~

Apart GB's basically a simplied version of one of the few AAA theme ideas I had for TSR years ago, but I was somewhat concerned that I couldn't pull it off due to the Afresh series' multiple use of images in category heads, etc. and was reluctant to create new themes for the forum (and instead simply just plopped completely themes into the database)

EDIT: I'm the most defensive about this theme now. ):
This is now going to be used for a not-so-secret project. It's got a lot of work to go on it (I haven't even started) but once it gets off the ground, you'll definitely see this theme rear its head in one forum or another...just not VGR, sorry!
* And obviously it's not gonna have the VGR logo lol

It's still in need of some work, though - it still needs buttons (but if anyone wants to contribute, they're welcome to help I guess - I'll make a project thread in the spriting forums if you guys are for it - reply and let me know!) but I've got pretty ambitious hopes for this one!!

Your Stance on Emulation?

What's your position on this matter?

I'm personally okay with emulation of things that are no longer sold and purchased through conventional means, such as Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, GBC & GBA, etc. However, for newer things like the Wii, 3DS, and etc. that are still sold and developed for today, I wouldn't emulate that. Unless of course, it's of something that was never localized, and got a fan translation or something.

The companies can't lose any money if there isn't any money to be made in the first place. Emulation is the better option than gambling on the usability of a random person's copy from something like eBay.

In honor of VGR's reboot and in hopes of generating some discussion, I thought I'd make some threads about things I like to talk about with people outside of the forums, which generally revolves around effective/ineffective design choices in games.

Note: If someone doesn't agree with you, don't get upset about their opinion. Focus your arguments on what was/wasn't effective and why, not on being "right" or "wrong." If you can't come to an agreement, just move on.

Fur Fighters

What makes the areas in Fur Fighters so good is the sheer amount of content in them. It's a third person shooter, but there are a lot of puzzles, collectibles and secrets in it. The levels are designed so that you're constantly given something new to look at, and many of these things have some form of interaction.

The hub world has all of the playable characters' houses, which adds to their...well, character. There are also unlockable minigames on the consoles in each of their houses, which is nice.

There's a PS2 version with cel shaded graphics and voice acting, and the original version with different graphics and weird simlish grunting on Dreamcast (which is the version I own). It's a little obscure so it's hard to find great pictures/videos of it


Mega Man Legends/64

Legends 2 has some good environments too, but I'm going to stick with 1 for now.

MegaMan and co. crash land on an island called Kattelox, which has a city that opens up to you more and more after various licensure procedures, as well as ruins that lead to underground treasure.

The Apple Market is a totally iconic place and a nice little spot that's open to you at the beginning. It's lined with stores that you can actually enter, including clothing stores (which don't serve much function besides being interesting), a music store (that has samples of different genres of music that you can actually listen to), and the junk shop where you buy gameplay-relevant things.

And of course, there's the easter egg where you kick the can into the bakery and get money for keeping the streets clean.

The rest of the city is filled with stuff as well. There's a hospital, a bank, and a library. There are vending machines and moving cars. There's a police station, and the police are actively involved in whatever happens on the island. There's a TV station and a news crew that broadcasts your attempts to stop the pirates. There's a part of the game where the pirates destroy buildings, and the extent of the damage is dependent on your ability to defeat the pirates quickly. Then after that, donations open up, and if you donate enough zenny to the town, you get to see the buildings return from their ruined state. It feels like there's an active, moving world, and you get to feel very much a part of it.

The ruins are pretty empty and not the fanciest thing to look at, but they have really iconic...walls. Seriously, though, the textures are cool. I don't think I'd even consider the emptiness a flaw, considering the long hallways and tight rooms contribute to the feeling of being isolated underground. The sound design really helps down there too, keeping the music quiet and making prominent the echoing sounds of Reaverbots you have to look out for.

Chaos Heroes Online (PC) BlazBlue character models

There is a Japan-only MMO that goes by the name of Chaos Heroes Online. From my knowledge, it is a crossover between various franchises, one of which is BlazBlue. I would rip from the game myself, but the game is only in Japanese, with no English patch. Not only that, but you need to make a Sega account in order to download the game, and I've been boycotting Sega lately due to how they treated Platinum Games, and also due to them shunning all of their non-Sonic franchises.
