Taking a crack at game development

Even though I am already working on an RPG with a friend of mine, I decided to work on an additional game just for fun. I may only be good enough to program a simple button in Flash, but I am willing to do almost all the visual assets and concepts.

I actually have two ideas for how this game should go, but I would only like to choose one for simplicity sake. I don't mind working on both, but which one should I at least invest more time into?

This is a rough mockup for a click and point adventure game. A lot of the inspiration comes from the ones created by Lucas Arts adventure games. This one will feature more than one playable character and it will work like how Day of the Tentacle does. Also, since I'm taking inspiration from Lucas Arts for this, I don't want any of my characters to die or get caught in a puzzle that's unsolvable because you missed the trinket you only have one shot to collect.

As for this one, this is my idea for a platform game. I'm going to use elements from multiple slidescrolling for this one, but my base inspriation comes from Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.

.png  Platform idea.png (Size: 57.05 KB / Downloads: 78)

For the visual style, I want to go for how Wario Land: Shake it pulls it off. That means I'm going to have to paint beautiful backgrounds and animate characters as if they appeared in a fluidly animated cartoon. Since I like doing both of these, this part should be no trouble at all.

As for the programming, that's the hardest part. I would like it if you guys were to help me with this part if you don't mind. I don't need for it to be programmed right away, but I would like work to begin the moment I flesh out this game a lot more. Luckily, I found a couple of engines that would work for each concept I have in mind.

Before you ask, I would prefer if this game was programmed in Flash. That way, anyone is able to play it regardless if they use a PC or a Mac (like I do). Of course, I am flexible with whatever programming language you guys would like to use as long as I am able to play the game on my own OS without any problems.

What do you think?

Requesting Anju sprites

Hey guys.

I normally don't request sprite sheets in public because I feel like I could do a lot better by just making them myself, but I am in the mood for a good quality sprite sheet of a certain character right now and I think I might do better asking about it this way than PMing someone about it.

Anyway, is there anyone willing to make a full sprite sheet with all the poses and animations I desire of Anju of the Zelda games?

As for the style, I would like it to be in the Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 3 style or something similar. Just as long as it isn't in any of the styles of the Mario & Luigi games, I'm good.

Is it alright for me to make this kind of request?

How do you change the background color on the ZSNES?

HD Remakes in HDNes, HiSMS and GB Enhanced [Thread2]

A few HD sprites by myself, intended for use in HDNes.

The Sega Master System emulator HiSMS (by Botrops), the NES emulator HDNES (by mkwong98), and the Gameboy emulator GB Enhanced (by Shonumi) are designed to make it possible to create HD remakes of your favorite 8-bit games.

As you play, the emulators rip the displayed graphics to image files that can be edited in Photoshop, at 2x or 4x the original resolution. The games still play exactly the same, but their graphics can be remade for HD. Music can also be replaced with higher-quality versions. This has already led to many interesting projects.

First video of the HD Super Mario Bros remix in progress. Art by Joao Victor G. Costa, implementation by Alex Douglas, video by GGuy. A lot of art's been done for the characters but mostly just the backgrounds are fully implemented so far.

Change a Game Icon while it is pending

0

I added a new Game and maked an icon. It said it must be 240*125 pixels, but I only worked with Barubary's icon maker before, so I don't knew something about the new icon system. Barubary's Icon Maker makes Game Icons in a different resoulution so I streched the Game Icon so it is 240*125 pixels. When I saw the Game Icon there were two Icons in one and this looks very strange...

How can I change the icon now, while it is pending or can I add the game again with the correct Icon when the submission failes because of that?

TSRPG [Sprites/Ideas/Storyboard]

Hello everyone.
I've been doing various sprites and such for a would-be game called. TSRPG, it would be a very Earthbound/Metal Max type of rpg.
Coding and such isn't my thing(yet) so at the moment the game would be made on an rpg maker. If someone wanted to code the game it's all yours. I'd supply the story/graphics.

Concept map
[Image: HEyLV5C.png]

I'm simply too busy to spend tons of time and getting it finished; it's nowhere near. However, I feel that the users of the TSR should have a hand in making the game.

I don't know if this should be a Community thing or not but I certainly deserves it's own thread.
If you want to help here's how you can!!!
-Post your own sprites (can be monsters, overworld characters, tiles).
-Post Ideas for the story.

Here's the dimensions for enemies.

Is the buddy/ignore list all that useful anymore?

0
0
I've been thinking about the buddy/ignore feature this site has. For the buddy list, all it feels like is just an easy way of PMing certain people when the task is hardly any trouble at all to begin with. Also, since there's no way to publicly show who your buddies are automatically (as in not editing your signature manually or something like that), I don't see that much of a point to it. I know it also keeps track of their activities, but I could generally do the same thing with the "Who's Online" bar at the bottom of the screen.

As for the ignore list, I don't imagine that getting a whole lot of use anymore. From what I've seen, I don't think any of the users here blocked anyone before. I assume that because they still read the posts left by other users and they handle the users who are acting immature with patience and let the admin deal with it. The only users I was put on the ignore list by are users who are actually rather immature. Since the ignore list feels generally like the DA block system, I have a reason to believe that it would be abused in a way that would cause members to tune out meaningful advice and critiques. As a result, it would stunt the mental and emotional growth of these users.

I can't speak for the people who actually use it (since it's not a question I bring up normally to others on this iste), but is this feature worth keeping around anymore?

Final Fantasy VI iOS sounds format

Hi again. Thanks to puggsoy I got to extract all the graphic resources from FF6 iOS. Now mi intention is to extract all the SFX from the game, but they are in format .akb. Who have played the game in a smartphone should know that the SFX are the same than the SNES version and till now there isn´t a compilation from all these sounds.

I would like to extract and post them here for your own use. Here is the folder with the sound files:
FF6 iOS AKB Sounds
