[Hobby] Seeking additional spriters for Steampunk hack n’ slash

Hello! We’re TeamSweepy, and we’re working on a pixel-art hack n’ slash Steampunk RPG called Greywater. We just released our public alpha into the wild for feedback, and we are looking to expand our team so that we can dive into the creation of the core content of the game.
Check out these Alpha Screenshots! or this Gameplay Video.

What we’re looking for:
We are seeking spriters/pixel artists. As a pixel artist, you would be responsible for transforming ideas and concept art into in-game assets to help bring the game world to life. Here are some samples of the sort of assets you'd be working on.

About us
We are a small team (3 artists, a composer, a programmer, and a writer) developing the game as a hobby project.

While this is (for now) a profitless affair, we do intend to launch a Kickstarter campaign when the project is farther along to help support the team. Until then we can’t compensate you monetarily, however we will validate you emotionally by shipping you a spiffy team T-Shirt and buttons, and by featuring your work in the game.

Expectations:
We are fairly transparent about our development process, and you’re welcome to use your work on the project in your portfolio (though we’ll ask that you avoid releasing spoilers into the wild). We don’t expect a full-time commitment, but we do ask that you contribute on a semi-weekly basis, and stay in contact. The team holds weekly audio meetings over Skype where the departments update each other on progress, and discuss issues, ideas, and internet memes.

Contact us!
Post or message us any questions you might have! Send us samples of your work by email to teamsweepy@gmail.com

A little More about the Game

Greywater Codex Wrote:The Gameworld
The game begins in the oldest district in a dystopian city now known Greywater (named for its polluted rivers). It was once a place of industry and prosperity, but now sits cloaked in the shadows of a towering structure which houses great, sprawling factories, and at its peak, a city for the wealthy elite. It is similar to Final Fantasy 7's "Midgar." The poor live down below in Greywater, and the working class live in a large settlement partway up the structure which is mostly enclosed. Greywater is extremely polluted as the smoke and waste of the factories in the great city above are funneled down into Greywater through pipes and sewers. Greywater is home to drug addicts and the destitute, as well as everyday folk struggling to get by. Resources are limited, as is access to fresh food and water.

Profile: Tavish Gordon (Protagonist)
Our protagonist is a gifted young man named Tavish. He is the reluctant hero (inspired by many of Martin Freeman's characters). Here's his profile from our dev wiki:

Tavish is an engineer by trade, and serves as an apprentice to the machinist of Oldtown. Working under the heel of his mentor has made him quick on his feet and good with unconventional problem solving. He's a tinkerer and builds gadgets in his free time. Though combat is not his area of expertise, a life of labor keeps him emotionally capable and physically fit. Tavish is a largely private person, he prefers not being meddled with, and meets adversity with exasperation. Despite physical fitness and mental acuity, he doesn't seek out adventure or even challenges, but he's the sort of person that people look to for leadership and solutions, Even though hates being in positions of responsibility, he does care deeply about others.

Tavish was sent to serve as the Machinist's apprentice as a teenager, and has lived under the Machinist's roof ever since. His parents, recognizing Tavish's potential early in his childhood, saw the opportunity to spare him from growing up in a harsh world, with nothing in his future beyond a hard life as another faceless laborer. Today, his parents live in one of the outer districts of Greywater city. Although only in their early to mid forties, life in Greywater has taken a toll on their health and their spirits. Tavish sends his parents a portion of his wages and visits them on holidays, but they are almost strangers to him now.

On one of his jobs, he discovers something which sparks his journey up through the labyrinthine sewers, railroad tunnels and factories of the structure (sort of like Diablo 1 in reverse).

Other Stuff
There are three "towns" (one per story act), each with a small cast of significant NPCs of varied personalities and appearances who play a role in the story and serve as vendors and quest givers. Of the three acts of the script, the first is writen (as is a chunk of the second), so there's still a lot that's yet to be decided. We do have a solid skeleton laid out for the course of the entire story though. The entirety of the game takes place throughout Oldtown Greywater and several locations along the structure.

Creating New Icons

Hey guys!

So after our recent discussions about new icons for the site, we're going to start going ahead with our plan. We've not even started properly yet, but already me and RTB have racked up about 600 icons! (That's about 1/93 of tSR done!)

If you want to read more about the icons, check out here:
http://www.vg-resource.com/showthread.php?tid=24421

We're looking for people to sign up to help out with these new icons. We're creating a Google Drive folder to store them, and organise them.
Google Drive is a simple system, similar to Dropbox, but with additional storage space, and an easier to use system for document files.
You can see our progress here:
https://drive.google.com/#folders/0BzWt9...UdWNXF2ZzQ

If you're seriously interested in helping out, send me a PM with your Google account email address. Once we're ready to go, I'll invite you as a collaborator so that you can add content. There are instructions within the folder for you.

If you only want to help out a little bit but not on a regular basis, you can still do by sending me a zip of icons you've made. If you're planning to do this 4/5 times, I suggest you get involved in the Drive, that way it's less work on both our parts.

Let's do this!

I sprited a thing.

[WRITING]Digit-5 - First novel done: Phandagron Chronicles

LATEST UPDATE (2014-01-14)

My first novel is ready, I've gone through the entire novel to try and fix some small things, so it basically is complete. All it needs now is a front cover and perhaps some small error fixing, and then it's publishing time.

Until that time, though, you can enjoy this novel for free. Note that once I've published it somewhere I'll remove the file from dropbox and replace the link with the store page(s), so get it while it's still free.

Phandagron Chronicles: The Ninja and the Paladancer

---

So, I've finally decided to work stories based on a unified world I've created. It's called Digit-5, named after the solar system the majority of the stories take place in. Basically, Digit-5 is about a solar system where six planets orbit a star in the same elipsis.

Many stories set in this universe only follow one planet at a time, and also have their own themes. For example, Phandagron will be primarily fantasy, while Zholhu's more about mystery and horror.

I also have a blog where I post more info about the world itself, and its characteristics. I'll be listing everything here, ordered by planet it mainly is about. I will also put up a link to either short stories or even links to store pages of my novel, with (at least) three chapters of my novel freely available. If I haven't released it yet you can get an early (and free) preview of the novel I'm going to publish later, so get it while it's still free.

By the way, I'm usually not that difficult with giving out free copies, so if you want one of my novels for free once the free link disappears, just give me a call.

(Note: Right now each section is rather empty, and not all planets have a description page, but I'll graduately add more to it.)

Something I've been working on. I'm certainly a beginner. Feedback would be great.

I've been working on a game for a while using sprites from TSR, and ripping some from snes games. The need arose for some custom sprites, and here's the weapons I've churned out so far. I've been using flash to convert real pics into sprites Some feedback would be great.

Here's some shots of the backgrounds I pulled together from all over the place with some custom elements included.

Here's what I started with today, followed with what I can only call a draft. I had to export the second image as a jpg, and quality has suffered.. The effects I'm using to adjust color and brightness (in an attempt to make everything look a little smoother next to everything else) are dropped when I export as a png. I realize there are HUGE differences in the scale (or resolution. I'm getting those 2 terms mixed up) , and that's something that will be addressed.

I've been snagging textures and objects from google images, and trying to pixel them up. I'm not sure if this is an acceptable way to go about it, but if it is I'd love to know anything about it. I'm still calibrating standards to resize and export the images in flash, import them again, resize again, and trace the bitmaps to get the sprite style, and blend it all together to make it look like one smooth scene.

Users that don't have their accounts activated yet?

When I look down into the "Who's Online" bar, I sometimes see users who haven't had their accounts activated for a long time, such as CorkUncooke. Considering that a few new users would really spice the place up, I was confused by why they were not yet registered yet; however, when I remembered my question about the users with wonky user names that got banned, I started to think that someone like CorkUncooke could actually be a bot.

Is my hunch correct and this is part of a system that prevents bots from wrecking havoc? I think this is the case because the link in CorkUncooke's Homepage bar on the profile is very wonky.

We all want to make predictions. I figured we could have a dedicated topic instead of clogging the proper topic. Think of it like a Bingo game. Whoever gets the most right wins. I'm also going to use a "Wildcard" pick. One that I don't think will make it, but would be awesome.

SNES: Lufia II sprite ripping help.

Alright... there are certain graphics in Lufia II that I just can't seem to access... like, you know when you cast spells... there's a pattern that appears over the screen/on the enemy... there's no way to get the raw graphic of that pattern... when you disable the enemy layer, or the background layer, the graphic is disabled also. I need to get the pattern graphic and I don't know how. I've tried different snes sprite ripping utilities but none of them work. I really wish I could access these graphics... Can anyone help? Does Davias know how?

Here are some examples of what I mean. You see the background pattern? It appears on the background, or on the target... I need the raw graphics of those patterns...
