Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix | Beast's Ballroom C4D Texture Problem

So I just got a model from the models resources called Beast's ballroom from KH. I tried opening it up in Cinema4D lite (I also have C4D r14) but it comes without textures like this: http://prntscr.com/5n9y98
So I converted the .dds files to bmp but how do I know which textures go to which materials because the names are bizarre and give me no indication: http://prntscr.com/5n9yj3

Persistent spline width? (3D Rendering Q)

I've been thinking my way around figuring out rendering styles in 3ds max for a Pseudo-2D type of effect and I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge about this particular idea I've been trying to implement.

The idea is that I would have a 3D model set up with splines linked to it. While the camera moves towards and away from the object, the splines would render the same line width regardless of distance from the camera.

Would I have to find a way to set this up or is there this kind of functionality included in any 3D package?

I would use the Ink n' paint material, but some of the results that it gives are at times unpredictable and often end up looking rather messier than I would like. I've also looked around for this type of effect, but I'm not entirely confident that the search terms I've been using have been used.

"Calling All Mixels" model ripping

Since there's a way to rip models from this game, I've decided to start this thread.

Someone I know over at Deviantart has already ripped a few models (without textures), these can be found in this zip folder that he uploaded: http://galactiga.wikidot.com/local--files/about/7z%20part%201.zip

And here's the contents:

However, he said that it will be a long while before he can continue ripping models, as he's pretty much occupied on an animated television series (or something like that), so I made this thread so that you guys can try to rip models and textures from Calling All Mixels as well so that we'll have a place to download 3D models of every Mixel sooner.

He said that he used Unity Assets Explorer to rip these and that they can be converted to .obj in 3DS Max using a script, though I don't have the game (or even a mobile device), so you guys have to extract the models and textures for me.

How to rip models from unity games?

I'm trying to figure out how to rip models from Unity .assets files, however, I've only succeeded in a couple of models being ripped. I have the files without obfuscation, and I know what's in the files, but I can't rip the models. Does anyone know how the Unity model files work?

Thoughts on webcomics

So, I used to be big on webcomics when I was younger, and I kinda want to get back into them.
I'm interested in stuff with plot right now, but I've been feeling disappointed with what I've been finding. I wanted to know if anyone had similar or differing experiences, and if anyone might have something to share that I haven't seen yet.

Some examples of stuff I've tried and haven't liked (that I'm sure at least some people will know of) are below:

http://www.avasdemon.com/pages.php?page=0001
http://dresdencodak.com/2010/06/03/dark-science-01/
http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/cq/page-1/

My major issue with these types of comics is typically the characters. They often act strictly according to a stereotype, which is pretty thoughtless writing. When characters don't play with expectations, they're boring and flat outside of whatever "cute" appeal they have for the first few pages. And that's fine, until you realize how many pages these comics have.

I really can't care about characters who only seem to exist to move the plot along. I feel put off when the whole cast of characters don't have something resembling "genuine" internal workings (believable/dynamic emotions, thoughts, concerns, etc.), because then the only somewhat interesting thing about them is how they affect things externally. But what good is it to have some interesting things happen if I don't care about the people they're happening to?

It's not even that these comics are really "bad", it's that they're incredibly unremarkable. Ava's Demon gets some points for quirky visual stuff sometimes, but I feel no level of true engagement when I read it. I don't wanna open up a comic and then feel like I'm just going through the motions over and over again.

For an example of something I like, I was shown Gunnerkrigg Court not too long ago. I think it's great, but I know I'm going to catch up to the updates, so I want to find other stuff to read too.
Gunnerkrigg's characters are a little more human and a little less like bland cartoons. The characters form actual relationships, too. Another thing I don't like in comics is when everyone feels incredibly alienated from each other, which I think is a problem in each of the three comics I listed above.

If you want to see it, you can take a peek here (though do note that it has quite the art evolution):
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1

Viper and I used to read this other one that I might pick back up called Zelda: El Rey. It doesn't even really try to be Zelda, it just takes some of the characters and lore and such and does its own thing. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's fun enough:
http://comiz-inc.deviantart.com/art/Zelda-001-189812786?q=gallery%3Acomiz-inc%2F16295723&qo=3

So, what's been your experience with webcomics? What about them appeal (or don't appeal) to you? Do you think the characters in the comics I complained about have something going for them that I'm missing? Do the characters not bother you so long as the plot goes somewhere? Does the art make it worthwhile? Have you read any that left an impact? Leave your thoughts and recommendations

Competitive Gaming Thread

So everyone has that game where they try to be the best at. Who all plays a game competively here? Pokemon, Smasg, CoD, or Starcraft? Do you just watch? Etc etc. why do you enjoy what you do

I play Smash 64 compatibly. The hitstun is pretty ridiculous and combos can get pretty hype. It's also arguably one of the most balanced Smash Bros, and the overly offensive style can really get my blood flowing. I watch the other Smashes, and I also watch competitive TF2

A friend of his sent me this embarrassing picture of him in his youth. I was planning on posting it on as many sites as I could, hoping that people would photoshop. I was planning on putting them on a posterboard as a birthday present just to fuck with him. Anyone here like to give it a go?

See any cool art recently? How about terrible art? Let's talk about it!

I'll start with something cool
[Image: c18296b715d6f4bb5326967c0aee012c-d7a6fao.png]
I rediscovered this artist that I apparently had in my bookmarks. Exaggerating reality while making it look appealing must be hard. Or maybe I just don't know anything. I think it's pretty awesome anyways.

And here's some more

Gallery's here! http://loish.deviantart.com/gallery/

On the other end, last night I was talking with some other tSRians about this weird Cryamore art...[Image: FgHKpcN.jpg]
Their bodies aren't too bad, so like, what happened with their faces? It's so bizarre

Also Esmy's (orange hair) design confuses me so much, even in art that's better than this. Mostly 'cause they gave her this "bangin' body" sort of thing, but then her hair is kind of gross and throws the whole thing off... Well, I don't hate her hair in itself, but it doesn't match at all. It's even weirder in art like this that has this dorky anime teen face. I don't really get it!

p.s. yeah I put this in creativity

I mean you can move it if you want, but I'd really like to encourage creative discussion and not just "here look it's a picture"

Hello, I'm very new to this site and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm NeoBrea, and I have some history with Prop and Environment modelling. I'm trying to speedily improve my rigging techniques, so I was on the hunt for some spare character models to practice on. Anyway, eventually I wound up here, and this site seemed very appealing. As I will also soon be trying to improve my character modelling skills, I thought this would be a great forum to participate in. So, hello! ^-^

My background is heavily oriented around Maya and Photoshop, but I also have experience with Zbrush, Unity, UDK and a handful of other development programs. While I hope to get critiques for my near-future works, perhaps I may be able to offer a little help with these programs and critiques with other projects if I am able Smile

Looking forward to seeing what'll happen in the future! ^^

Models in maya

Hello I am new to this site and messing with models in general. Ive had some success in making models work in maya but ive noticed some models will be one solid mesh but have multiple images that it needs, i was just wondering how i would add multiple images to one solid object because splitting it in the mesh tab at the top split it ALL the way down, it had 618 selectable pieces.
Thanks in advance

My models had been rejected, I need a tutorial

I tried to submit my first two models rips from Mario Galaxy, but I did not know that there is a whole procedure to be made in order to make the models work on other computers. Bellow is the content of the message I received:

  • The model does not load or properly display the textures. Either the model is looking in the wrong place for the textures, or a problem with the UV coordinates is preventing the textures from being displayed correctly. In order for models to properly load textures on anybody's computer, materials must be set up using relative file paths. Some programs export models using absolute file paths, which look fine on your computer but break for everyone else.

Both .DAE and .OBJ formats can easily be edited using any text editor, so texture paths can quickly be changed this way. (.OBJ models have their texture paths stored in .MTL files, so edit these instead.)

If the problem with the model itself, this is usually caused by models having more than one UV map on the same mesh. Common model formats do not support multiple UV maps like this. For models like these, use the map that matches with the most important texture. While for some models, the alternate UV maps are useless, some models depend heavily on them. In cases like these, it is best to create duplicates of the mesh in question and give each copy a different UV map. This way, none of the UV data is lost in the export.

  • The materials for the .obj don't load the textures at all, and the materials in the .3ds point to TGA files instead. In fact, just toss the .3ds files altogether, because it is an obsolete format. (I get that last part)
I really wanna contribute to this website since I made plenty projects with the models, and I would like to give back.

I would like to someone to pinpoint me to a in-depth tutorial explaining how to fix this issue, I understand better with pictures and videos.

Or if someone would be kind enough to take a look at the models and tell me where to start.

Ripping from F-Zero GX Help

I have been trying find a way to rip F-Zero GX to 3DS Max 2012, but so far I am having a hard time trying to find such a way.
At first, I used gxpand and gxgma. Although it did rip the model and textures properly (in .OBJ file format), it didn't really work out with 3DS MAX as it mostly end up with either an error or a very messed up model. So I moved on to Ninja Ripper and I have been trying to rip from F-Zero GX using Dolphin Emulator 4.0-4905 with Ninja Ripper, but the ripper didn't return anything and I have also tried other rippers like 3D Ripper DX which I end up getting an error (Unable to create process) and DX Ripper (Didn't work at all as the .exe file in the archive didn't appear at all when it was clear that the file is in the archive.).

At this point, I really just don't know what to do and I need help for this. So if anyone could provide help, it will greatly appreciated.

Mighty Jetters Draws For You

In an attempt to broaden my artistic ranges and efficiency, I decided to open up one of those threads where people ask the OP to draw things for them.

Rules/guidelines are as follows:
  • Only 4 requests at a time; I'm very slow and become overwhelmed easily when I get stuck on something. Ouch!
  • Only 1 request per person
  • Expect for requests to take at least a week to complete; as I mentioned above I am very slow at drawing and also have life things sometimes.
  • None of that NSFW/nudity stuff (however, mildly suggestive matter such as someone wearing a bikini/boxers or posing sexily is allowed).
  • Nothing super complex please (I.E.: a lion mage dancing in a wintery forest with skateboarding killer bear knights everywhere).
  • Fictional subjects preferred, such as characters/items/objects (though I won't make that a rule).
  • Art style will be either sketchy or plain line art with relatively smooth lines; simpler subjects MIGHT be colored and/or simply shaded if I feel up to it/have time.
  • Please provide a decent reference image of the character in question, because if it is something I haven't seen or heard of, I might not know what to look for.
Okay, I don't think I'm forgetting anything... so with that all said, fire away~

Requests:

  1. Kat - Pop'N Music: Nakaji / Flow Flow / Grand Hammer
  2. TomGuycott - Pokémon: Bisharp
  3. recme - Awesomenauts: Scoop
  4. psychospacecow - BattleBlock Theater: Hatty Hattington

Victory Among Others / Crushing Defeat (Best and Worst in Franchise)

Didn't see a thread like this anywhere, thought it would be interesting.

Basically, pick a video game franchise of your choosing, single out the best and the worst entry. Doesn't matter if you've played every game in the series, just go off of the ones you've experienced. Discuss why you chose what you did. Why was it so good? What could have made it better?

Just so this post has some meaning, I'll share my thoughts on Metroid I guess.

Super Metroid
I can't rave about this game enough. The story (yeah, I said it), the graphical accomplishment, gameplay, and general feel of the game is something I haven't experienced from a Metroid game, since. The feeling of loneliness is completely amplified by the haunting music, environments, and indigenous creatures. The bosses weren't always hard, but figuring out how to beat them (Draygon gave me so much trouble for the most ridiculous reasons) was always so much fun. The ending too...

Metroid (NES)
This is where things upset me. There's never been a Metroid game I truly don't like (Never played Other M, probably not going to) but this would have to take the cake for the weakest link in the franchise, which is bs because it was the original. It suffers from the crummy thing called "time". As a game, it's super fun, one of the best for the Nintendo Entertainment System, but comparing it to later games, it just can't compete.

Eager to see some others. Be nice, don't trash anyone for there opinions. An opinion like this is completely singular and has nothing to do with anyone but the one giving it. Please respect that. That however does not mean you can't discuss things, you can disagree, but try not to be a total dick about it if possible and explain why you disagree with some smarts, and everything will go great. ^__^

Legend of Korra: The Game

Hello everyone, It's been a considerable amount of time since my last appearance on these forums. Last time I was here it was a little differently laid out, and I was incredibly new at model ripping, and yadda yadda... but you didn't come here to read my history, you came in here because the title said Legend of Korra: The Game. So while this game is rather bland at worst and a mildly fun waste of time at best, A 3D model of Korra is an amusing little potential grab. So, I grabbed her.

You can Download her in her current incarnation here: Korra in T-Pose

.png   Korra.png (Size: 17.51 KB / Downloads: 3)
.png   Korra_tpose.png (Size: 33.86 KB / Downloads: 7)

I will be in time ripping some of the environmental stuff as well as possibly some of the enemies. [there really aren't that many, but I had to assemble the korra model from like 7 separate pieces. Dunno how much of that I'll need to do with other models yet.]

Model loads with multiple layers of clothing on

I downloaded a character from the models resource and it loads with multiple layers of clothing on. How do I fix this? I open it in FBX Viewer. I also need to know how to change the Zatch Bell school model from 2d as displayed in 3ds max, to 3d and walkthrough-able. Sorry for the noob questions I guess? Thanks.
