Help With Noesis/Ripping in General

I want to rip sprites for a steam game called Starbound. It's an indie game similar to Terraria. I decided to try ripping for the first time, but, while some sprites could be ripped easily with a screenshot, some can't, so I want to use some kind of tool to do it. Is Noesis the best option? And if so, how do I use it?

The main problems are the spinny arms and liquids.

Hello,

I am developing a Cave Story mod, and I would like to post the graphics of it here. Is that allowed? I will make sure not to post duplicates of sprites already in the original Cave Story graphics provided.

Hello, I found this site very interesting and helpful, well to the point...

Here's my little problem, I recently ripped the game "Zelda collector's edition" and when I was looking for the games I found that they are compressed in .tgc format (yes, I googled it, that's why I'm here asking for help), does anyone know how to open this kind of format? or does anyone know a software to open it?

Thanks

Having Trouble Ripping Sega CD Sprites

So, yesterday, I finally managed to install a Genesis Emulator that works on my operating system. Big Grin

I decided to rip some sprites from a Sega CD game (I had followed a tutorial on this site earlier.). So I started the game, got to where I wanted to rip the sprites, paused the game, opened up "CPU->Debug->Genesis->VDP", and I got to the VDP Screen: on the left is all the game's tiles, and in the right-hand corner is the palettes. Pretty basic, right? Well, here's the problem:

I can't click on anything. Sad

I tried clicking on another palette to change the color of the tiles-nothing. I tried scrolling the tiles-nothing. I literally cannot do anything on this screen except for changing to another debug menu! Could someone please help me?

P.S: I'm using Gens11b

EDIT: In order to help you guys understand my problem, here's an screenshot showcasing what exactly the screen looks like when I enter the VDP.

Good game engine choice?

The topic I know is very cliche, but it's usually different for everyone.  So a few friends and I want to start getting farther into the game development stage of our lives [we've all been there].  We were looking through some engines and came to a few good choices.  We are willing to spend money on the engine, but we of course can only spend so much.  We originally were gonna use the Blender Game Engine, but we wanted to be realistic. We've come down to a decision between CryEngine 3, Unreal Engine 4, and Unity 5 (we are looking at nextgen engines).  Unreal Engine 4 seems to be evolving with support really fast and seems pretty well maintained.  Unity 5 looks like it has great performance with great features, but we have no idea when we will actually see a potential release date.  Then we have CryEngine 3 which has no more support for the free version and now requires a subscription for the latest version.  With CryEngine, we are a little iffy because there is not as much documentation as Unreal is picking up, and as community driven as Unity.  The cheapness of Unreal's monthly payment along with source code was something that really bought our attention, but then again [as I understand it] Unity just has a onetime $1000 payment and the engine is then free to use with no royalties included.  And from what I've seen, CryEngine has a similar payment method to Unreal (minus the source code access).  We started getting familiar with UDK, but Unreal Engine 4 soon came out and we then decided UDK wouldn't be worth it.

So what would you guys recommend?  Wait for Unity?  Start investing in Unreal?  Get to work with CryEngine?  Even if you haven't used the Engines, what seems like the better choice?  We're not looking to make an MMO or blockbuster game, but we want to make some decently built 3rd person platformers, so suggestions are appreciated. We aren't really set on any projects, but we want to start learning and seeing what we're capable of, and build up from there.

I'm trying to rip the sprites from the Bayonetta browser game, Angel Land. However, the game doesn't seem to be an .swf. I'm guessing it's Java or something?

Either way, I can't download the game for ripping. Can anyone help? Here is a link to the game in question: http://www.platinumgames.co.jp/404/

megaman zero's possibility of contiuation

doees anyone  remember this installment to the megaman saga  staring zero it was quite awesome with challenging game play and great boss some of which having to be toned back to fit into the  gba cartridge. well anyway it occures to me that in its sequel megaman zx  they never said zero died on board Ragnarok. now i know what alot of you are gonna say "but we have bio metal z in zx so he must have died" well although  zero did die at some point prior to the zx plot it wasent necessarily due to ragnarok. you see neither the gaurdians x or axl died on ragnarock  there bio metals were produced later based on model w. so it is possible zero survived and was later simply transformed into a bio metal at a later poiint.

given this fact i think it may be possible that we may see megaman zero  5 someday after all they did produce 2 new  installments of the classic megaman so why not zero.

How to Rip Sprites from a PS2 Game?

I don't have a PS2 at my home, but I have always wanted to try and learn how to rip sprites and stages from the game, Street Fighter EX3. I have been searching for tutorials and I have had no luck in figuring out how to exactly do this. I know there are things such as emulators and all that, but I don't know what exactly to use and I was told you can do this without a PS2 as well. I'm just seeing if anyone could lead me in the right direction to get started on what I have always wanted to get accomplished. Lol. Links, Tutorials or anything would be appreciated!

Wonderswan Digimon games project

Well, I've pretty much got Digimon Medley covered, but I don't see much of anything from the series where Ryo Akiyama stars; I know TSR has some from the color version of Anode/Cathode, but...

On the one hand, I can easily view the sprites in a tile editor (I use Tile Molester, I've been using that for the WSC games for many years), but the downside is that I can't get the color palettes from them.  I can only get colors from things like screenshots (like what I did with Digimon Medley), and for some reason I have a tough time figuring out how in the world to play some of those games!

So, anybody up for giving an assist by like, taking screenshots to get certain color palettes?  It's really easy for me to rip them from a tile editor, they just need the right colors.  I'll show you what I mean:

These are from Brave Tamer, the third and final in the Ryo series.  The ones who need certain colors are outlined in obnoxious lime green.  Some of them just need eyes or a certain shading color, others need an entire color palette.  I would so appreciate even just one shot to give an idea as to what they're supposed to be colored with!

We've set up an official Mumble server so that users can voice chat with each other. The server will be host of not only VG Resource users, but also VGFacts. There will be rooms for people to join if they don't want to talk in a big open environment too.

Mumble is a voice chat service to allows users to talk to each other over microphone. It's free, and easy to use, with a typing aspect too which allows for text-to-speech too. It's pretty awesome, and great for talking with people without having to use a keyboard - great for socializing while still being productive in other things.

Download Mumble here: http://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page

To join, simply open up Mumble, and add:

port: 64738

I'll be using this regularly, so I'll probably speak with some of your at some point!

Developer's struggle with artists

HI! I'm a game developer (duh...)
I've been having a lot of issues with artists (sprite and background alike) during my whole section of game building, even though the artists say they're interested and say they love the story, they tend to disappear after 1/2 weeks.
The artist that's with me is probably the only artist who has done work (for example the main menu) and I fear my game's never going to reveal it's true potential.
Does anyone else have this issue?
If you would like to read the storyline or ask anything about the game, please feel free to email me at GearGameProduction@Gmail.com
I won't mind some critics to judge the story/symbols in the game

Another Alien Alphabet

I'm looking for feedback especially from people used to work with Anti-Aliasing as that's what I'm trying to be better at. For the sake of clarity of the image, the opacity of the letters anti aliasing has not been messed with, however, it will be when it's finished.

Almost each letter had several designs, The ones on top represent my favourite and current designs while the others below will not make it into the finished alphabet. As you can see, some are alone and left untouched, but that doesn't mean that they are final, especially the triple arrows one, I'm considering reducing it to two arrows because it's kinda redundant to draw three arrows each time you use it.

BTW, for some reason, the shades of grey become lighter when uploading to the net. I've got no clue as to why. It's the second time it happens.

So I checked. R195 G211 B205 should actually be R195 G195 B195, R134 G148 B142 should be R127 G127 B127 and R178 G195 B189 should be R177 G177 B177
