Honestly I'm not really back to tSR in any meaningful capacity, only came back to respond to something Pik linked to... but I've done some minor creative things in my absence - the primary one of which does not actually qualify in other threads so I figured I'd post it here.

Anyone familiar with Person of Interest (if you haven't watched it and like action series with generous helpings of thought-provoking themes/conversations, you're doing yourself a disservice!) should definitely be familiar with the following image:

I recreated this in HTML/CSS as a precursor of sorts to a userscript that I want to create/finish for BoardGame-Online. I'd go into details but honestly I'm unsure if I'll even complete it because of a number of different issues, among one being that I need to categorize every single item in the game so my script knows how it can be a threat. Tedious work and I still haven't nailed down the spec yet. I always have issues with specs.

I do still need to add the fancy 'electronic' lines on the black borders, among other things. I will eventually be animating this from the start up to the point where the white background does that pixellated fade thing, at which point the UI will fade out to the actual game's interface. I won't be attempting to replicate the map and all of those fancy movement effects afterward as I think that might be more trouble than it's worth.

(Don't worry Puggsoy, I haven't forgotten about Dilbert)

the future of metal slug

metal slug the game to beat for 2d shoot em ups it was great in the arcade but does it have a future. personslly i think it can  work since  portable machenes are now much more powerful at least equal  to or more powerful then the machenes they were origanal meant for. so long as they try to keep that fun up beat arcade spiret (which i think wasent there in metal slug ds) i believe it can continue.

i would really like to hear what you would like to see in a continuation of  the metal slug series my hope is they phase out mordan and his rebels in favor of the return of  the Ptolemaic army or the Amadeus syndicate

Hi, my name is M.E.R.255 and I'm kind of a weird guy. =P I haven't said anything before, being a bit shy and all. ^^;

Anyways, I'm a Pixel Artist who loves editing sprites, rendering N64 images and turn them into Gifs, but mainly loves sharing my stuff with others. =D
Thought I could register on here and share some of my stuff on this site (repeated myself, argh), if that's alright with you. ^^; Probably just in the Custom folder, have no clue how to hack or extract sprites. =/

Ahem, but anyways... my favorite color is darkblue, my first language is German, and I like listening to video game music. =P
Um, maybe that's not very fitting to post in here, seeing how this website is more specialized in sprites and such... let's see...
  • I like editing Pokémon animations, by altering or adding features [Image: derplax.gif][Image: datpika.gif] 
  • Was also looking into making more Fakémon one day, like Virchu [Image: virchu.gif] (she's so cute and bouncy =D)
  • I used to do a lot of SMRPG edits like making a Koop out of a Terrapin and altering it. ^^

  • Screenshotting N64 ROM footage from the emulator, manually remove the background, and place them together as animation like so:

  • Also would love to learn more about texture hacking one day, but maybe it's better if I don't know, seeing how weird my ideas are XD

  • I also like making smilies, like I've made these from scratch, so if you want me to upload some somewhere for you to use, feel free to ask =D (aren't perfect, but I like them ^^)

Controls:
Arrow keys Left and Right move Alucard in the respective direction.
Arrow key Down makes Alucard crouch.
S key makes Alucard jump.  The longer it is pressed, the higher Alucard can jump.
1-6 change the color of the ghost trail behind Alucard.

Features:
Walking
Crouching
Jumping
Falling
Slopes
Music Loop System

Just looking for feedback on how it feels.  Not looking to make a 100% copy clone of Symphony of the Night.  The goal is create a similar play experience that will be incorporated into my own Metroidvania style indie-game that I have been fleshing out for the past few weeks.

Things I have noticed so far:
Sometimes falling on a downward slope in the same direction that you are moving causes you to appear to bounce(ie, resets your fall).  Doesn't happen all the time.  It's being looked into.

Keep in mind:
On my machine, I maintain frames-per-second over 2500.  If you are using a slow machine, you may see artifacts or image glitches.  Let me know about these.

I'm trying to use these reference images to draw from, but I can't read the notes and I feel like they could help.
I'm hoping to learn Japanese (or at least how to read it) eventually but for now I'd really like this translated.

I only own the PSN version, else I would do the rips myself using PSound and the disc.
I won't download an ISO to rip them and it'll be sometime before I can get my hands on a physical copy of the game.
eBay has even the green label going for outrageous prices.

I was actually shocked that it hadn't already been ripped and placed on sounds-resource.  The game has some great sound effects and great cheesy voice acting.

Hey guys, I haven't been active in a while, so I need more help. I was making a level for nsmbwii in reggie level editor when I ran into and issue. whenever i placed sprite 138 I was unable to save. Whenever I clicked on save it did absolutely nothing. I tried closing out and clicking on save when the dialogue came up, and it closed but i had to do everything all over again. i even tried "Save Level As" and it STILL did nothing. any solutions? Wink

Castlevania Redux

Castlevania Redux (WIP Title) is a project of mine that started as a completely different game. 
The goal of this project is to remake the NES Castlevania in a Dracula X gameplay style. However, aesthetically the game is faux 8-bit. Faux meaning I'm not following memory limitations, but only using the NES pallette and bitcrushed sound samples. This is one of the first projects where I've had everything organized and logged. I'm rendering a new Alpha (I started with 0) at the end of every development session.

Screenshots (Alpha 2):
The game will have updated versions of the original 6 stages (1,2,3,4,5, & 7) , plus 3 alternate stages (2', 3', & 4') and 2 new stages. (6 & 8) The alternate stages will be accessed similarly to RoB, meaning that you will have to take a hidden path to access a different boss, and ultimately access the alternate path. You must continue to exlpore to stay on the alternate path; if you find yourself fighting one of the original bosses, you're back on the main path. A new character that plays Maria's role (Fast & overpowered, made for explorers & people who find Simon too hard to use) is in her conceptual stages. Several new enemies will be added, and old ones will be expanded upon or completely re-interpreted.

All comments/criticism/suggestions/ideas welcome! If I use an idea of yours, you'll be featured in the credits. After the game is out of Alpha stages, I will release most major Betas publicly. If you contribute to the debugging process, you'll also be featured in the credits. Should I get bored/abandon this project, I will release the source code. (I've finally gotten over that stinginess. On that note, if you see something you don't know how to do in Game Maker, feel free to ask.) Thanks for reading!

I've currently been ripping the models from Final Fantasy XIII & Final Fantasy XIII-2. I'm currently unsure on how to use a certain type of map and was hoping somebody knows how to use them in Blender 2.63 or 2.49B or know a decent tutorial that I could peruse to my own delight! LOL
The maps are RGB and look like this...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Tilesets

A game series as popular as this, and we're severely lacking in the tileset department? Tsk tsk, TSR!

For clarity's sake, I am referring to the first game in the series, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue team. The game has some excellent tilework, and it would be a fantastic reference for anyone designing a rogulike tileset. Not to mention, I imagine all of the tiles would be super-easy to rip! You'd just have to boot up a ROM, choose an area, and rip all the tiles directly from screenshots. There are only a small number of tiles in each tileset, too, so I imagine the whole process wouldn't take long.

If anyone is interested in ripping these but hasn't played the game, this is an example of the largest the tilesets get.

Android 3D model viewer for virtual reality

Greetings everyone.  New user here.  I've been visiting this awesome site for several weeks now testing an app I've been working on.  Didn't notice until now that there is a forum!


I'm working on an Android app that lets you import 3D models into virtual reality.  You need a google cardboard for full effect but if you've got an android phone it's still fun to mess around with.

Currently only supports .obj files but I've aimed for maximum compatibility with many of models on the site.  For most models you just need to drag and drop the entire directory into the file manager.

With Ton's blessing, I am starting this Sprite Competition!

Super Smash Bros. Newcomers!

The challenge is to make sprites of one of the characters that is new to the 3DS and WiiU versions of Smash Bros.

Character choices include:
Rosalina, Bowser Jr, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, Palutena, Dark Pit, Little Mac, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Shulk, Megaman, Pac-Man, Duck Hunt

SSB sprites have a long and proud history in the spriting community. Partly for this reason I am going to go out on a limb and say edits are permitted, but they better be really good, or people are going to shout at you! Tongue

Here's some inspiration to get your creative juices flowing:

The timeframe is just over a month. Last Day to post your sprites is March 29th, and then voting will commence.

Lots of poses and great animations will definitely help your chances of winning!

SMRPG Shy Guy enhancement (spritesheet + molds)

I loved looking into Spriters Resource for years now, and at one point I tried making my own spritesheet to maybe display as a Custom spritesheet... but have no clue how to do so. Ouch!
Also a thing I'm wondering about is what colors can be used on a SNES/SMRPG cartridge, since I can't find that. ^^; Otherwise I'd like to make sure the colors are 100% accurate. =D But yeah, anyways, here's my spritesheet and the sprites did work in the SMRPG ROM (by using LazyShell program), hope it looks alright. ^^

(MediaFire is nice for storage, but bad for large GIFs >_>)
You'll most likely need to use them since the program can get a bit confused on certain molds since the slingshot originally had the same colors as parts of the Shy Guy. ^^

Oh, um, I guess I could talk about this spritesheet. ^^
  • I tried displaying the frames of animation on the top left
  • Shy Guys use 15 colors + 1 transparent, thus are safe to use for SMRPG ROM, but unsure about cartridge when it comes to colors...
  • provided the BPP Graphics file for Shy Guy to use in LazyShell editor (though if you're unsure what you're doing, use the molds instead)
  • pallets on the right including some for different Shy Guys (for replacing Shy Ranger, Sling Shy)
  • wanted to make Shy Guy better looking by smoothing out the shading pixels, coloring the shoes blue, and coloring the slingshot differently
  • made my own font in FontStruct for the text, you can download my font here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ow4jclzhs6pt8hr/MERs-font.zip (use 8px, 16px, 24px, ... font size and no sharp/crisp/strong/smooth... just keep it basic ^^Wink
Anyways, hope you guys like them =D And maybe can point on some things I should improve and maybe tell me whether I should upload this to Custom (somehow, never done it before) or not so. ^^
