ripping PSX models

i want to rip models from PSX games using pSX, because thats the only emulator that can measure the depth of PSX polygons (even though PSX doesn't have a Z-Buffer), but how do i convert VRAM data into a usable mesh like .obj or .3ds? i would really like to expand the PSX category on TMR a bit.
the games are:
The Land Before Time: Big Water Adventure (a request by DigiPonytheDigimon on dA)
Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon
Carrmageddon (original 1996 release)
Nicktoons Racing
Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMix (just the trippy backgrounds)

Help with Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon model ripping

Hi, first time poster here, and I wanted some help with model ripping on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. I was able to extract the rom files, but all I found was just some .data and .dict files, which are formats that are completely unknown to me. I'm pretty sure those are the models, but in a different format. I read somewhere that they were zlib compressed, but decompressing it only led to a 00000000.dat file, which was no use. Does anyone have any info on this?

Here is the MEGA link for all the Luigi's Mansion files for you guys to look at. One in particular is in art\feghosts\ghosthider.data or ghosthider.dict

Ripping Custom Robo (GCN) Files

I'm trying to rip models from Custom Robo for the Game Cube and I am currently having no success. I extracted the files from Dolphin and have them in a folder, but I don't know what to do next. I do know that there are these files known as rpg_f_models.BIN, rpg_t_models.BIN, and snr_chara.BIN, but I don't know how to open them.

TVGR Fly Sale (Trading Thread)

Hello, hello, welcome to the TVGR Flea Market (that's right, we're the The Video Games Resource). Users are welcome to post anything they're willing to trade to other users. Please, let's keep things civil. I know there are plenty of situations where something is worth to one person than it is to another, but let's not ruin friendships with all of this. If you don't like where negotiations are going, please politely back out. "Nah dude, maybe next time."

Let's set out some ground rules:

1: No in-thread auctions. Linking to other websites like eBay is fine.
2: Be clear about the condition of the product, with images if possible.
3: Be very open about how you're looking to conduct business. If you can only accept certain forms of payment, be upfront about that.
4: Be honest. Dishonesty will not be tolerated.
5: When a trade or sale is agreed upon, both users must post in this thread confirming that the trade is going to happen and what, exactly, is being traded.
6: If you discover at some point that you aren't going to be able to come through with your end of the trade, you are responsible for a full refund (including shipping). Failure to do so will result in a ban. Be sure to have all your ducks in a row before you make or accept an offer.
7: If you rip somebody off, you're gone. Banned. Forever.
8: Personal information should be kept to private messages (even if you're totally comfortable with it being public knowledge, the staff probably isn't).
9: If you are asked to provide images of an item, you are obligated to do so.
10: You are responsible for maintaining a "Master Post" to contain all your listings. I will link to each user's Master Post in this post here.
11: You are allowed to create a new post for a new item, just be sure to add the same information to your Master Post.
12: Forum rules about double posting applies to this thread. Do not bump the thread just to get more visibility for the item you posted yesterday.

Optional Yet Helpful Guidelines:

- It's going to help facilitate trading if you can compile some kind of "wishlist" to give people an idea of what you're looking for.
- Feel free to handle the majority of a negotiation publicly to avoid any kind of seedy backpeddling.
- Non-Video Game items are allowed to be traded. You have an album or a shirt you no longer need, feel free to list it.

Happy trading! Big Grin

I cannot accept electronic payment outside of gift card codes unless you purchase an item from my eBid store. Reason being: I don't actually have a Paypal or similar account--I team up with somebody else to operate on eBid. Please do not offer Paypal or Amazon Payments or anything like that.

I do accept Nintendo eShop, Steam, and Amazon gift codes.

I probably can't afford to ship outside the U.S.

You can find an incomplete wishlist here (will update this post with a better wishlist later on).

If you wish to conduct business via eBid or GameTZ instead of TVGR, I can work with that. Just ask.

Video Games:

XBox 360: Tomb Raider Underworld ~New~

I know that's only one listing right now. I'll be back with more later on. I just needed this post to be here right off to give people a vague idea of how to set their posts up.

Also I forgot that this site merges double posts, so I'm probably going to move this whole listing thing down to the third post if somebody comments.

Can someone convert these files?

Hi! I'm working with the FusionFall Legacy team to recreate FusionFall, a now shut down MMO that was created by Cartoon Network.  We have access to the game files, but unfortunately they were created in an outdated version of unity, and because of this, we are unable to properly extract / convert the files.  We are looking to re-import models, animations, sounds, etc into Unity 5 and any help would be appreciated.

Interesting note: the audio files (type 83) only seem to work when placed in Audacity.  As far as we know, it has to due with messed up file headers, so the same is most likely true for the rest of the assets.

Linked is a .zip file containing all of the data for Nano Buttercup (animations, sounds etc), the original file (unextracted) and the QuickBMS we used to extract the files.
Could someone please figure out how to get these in a usable format?

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking around here for some time now and I decided to make an account to upload some models, so I thought I might as well make an introduction thread.

There is no Accountability for Game Developers

As a long time MMO player, I've seen developers come and go. The current market is nothing more than a Smash and Grab Robbery. They come out with a new game, give it a founders pack with early access to get you hooked then make a **** game.
The worst is when you have a sub game that has long subscription options 6-12 months or more, then the game goes free to play.
Now its even worse with the new crime.. Crowd funding. What a joke. Hey give me your money and in a few years when we go live you can play it. Sad part is, there are 1000's of people willing to pay for the chance of taking part in a game they have very limited knowledge of.
In the current market its been proven that you don't have to make a good game to get paid. There are numerous examples out there.
What happened to Developers who are in it to make a solid game along with making money.

What do you think of loyalty?

I've been studying ethics for the past two months, and we've started talking about loyalty. I'm not entirely sure how exactly I feel about it at the moment, but I've also been reading about it from several different perspectives. I just kind of wanted to throw it out there as a general question to see what people here (being of a slightly different mindset than the people I interact with otherwise) think about it: what's your opinion on loyalty? Are there different kinds of loyalty? When is it good and when is it bad?

It's been a long while since the last time I submitted anything new here.

Anyway. To start this post is with this new sheet for Sonic the hedgehog 2: A proper rip of Dr. Robotnik using Gens' VDP viewer.
Reason I did this, the current sheets are really outdated and not ripped properly. Minus Yawackhary's, which I merged his rips with this one.
Silver Sonic is included in the sheet as well. I re-ripped him for the same reason.

Summoners War

Someone offered help and asked me to share how I ripped this game's models so I decided to open this thread for those interested. I kind of quit trying to figure out so perhaps more people can continue with this.

It's a mobile game and downloads lots of files. There are many different formats but the ones for units are of "dat" extension and go like "unit_mdl_archangel.dat". In this game most monsters have "awakened" form and their name has "_hr" in it like "unit_mdl_archangel_hr.dat". Buildings/stages seem to be using a different format.

There were a few exceptions like "special_mdl_irene.dat" which have slight differences but generally the format goes like the following. (It's been a while since I worked on these so I may remember a few things wrong.) The formats are in LITTLE_ENDIAN.

Let's say the file consists of chunks, each chunk has 4 byte integer size value, then this size amount of bytes.
  • First chunk is a short unknown chunk, probably some kind of header.
  • PMM chunk which contains vertices, indices, normals, uvs and weights data. Weights seem to be 1 joint assignment per vertex.
  • PLM chunk which contains bones and animation data I think, this needs figuring out the most.
  • Textures chunk which contains PNG images for different elements. (Monsters come in various elements in the game.) Each element seems to be using a single texture for the entire model, 3D geometry is common for each element. This chunk seems to lack chunk_size value. Read below.

Now I'll explain what I managed to figure out so far regarding these chunks.

I just skip the header chunk.

PMM Chunk:
  • 4 bytes String "PMM$"
  • 2 bytes Unknown
  • 2 bytes indice_count
  • 2 bytes vertex_count
  • 4 bytes unknown
  • 2 bytes scale_divider
  • 55 bytes unknown
  • vertex_count * 12 bytes > x,y,z values each 4 bytes signed integer. Divide each by scale_divider.
  • vertex_count * 3 bytes > normal values each 1 signed byte. Divide each by 127.
  • vertex_count * 8 bytes > u,v values each 4 bytes signed integer. Divide each by 65536.
  • indice_count * 2 bytes > indice values that 3 of them make 1 face. Short value, probably unsigned .
  • vertex_count * 1 bytes > ID of the assigned joint of each vertex in order. Byte value, probably unsigned.
PLM Chunk:
  • 4 bytes String "PLM$"
  • 2 bytes > unknown_size_A
  • 20 bytes > some unknown value
  • unknown_size_A * 7 bytes > more unknown data
  • 1 byte joint_count, probably unsigned
  • 32 bytes unknown, might be armature/skeleton's values
  • joint_count * 39 bytes > So each joint has 39 bytes of data which I couldn't properly figure out. First byte is usually 0xff, second is ID (same in weights data above), third is parent joint ID. Seems to be right but can't be sure.
  • The rest is probably animation data, length can be calculated using chunk_size value. The last 4 bytes seem to be always "****" string.
Textures chunk:
  • 4 bytes > element ID probably, you can see from 1 to 6
  • 4 bytes texture_size > if 0, no texture
  • texture_size * bytes > PNG data, simply export into PNG files
(This chunk seems to lack chunk_size value. I'm thinking maybe each element texture data is supposed to be treated like a chunk on its own.)

I can't share my export codes since they are in Flash AS3 and not in a ready-to-use-by-anyone state but I believe some people here can write scripts for common programs that are usually used around here.

Here's an example file for those who don't have the game or don't want to bother getting, which should produce this model:

WayForward .GR2 Model Format

$

I recently purchased Double Dragon Neon on Steam, mostly because it was a cheap WayForward game. The 3D models in the game are stored in .gr2 files, like other games of theirs (Such as DuckTales Remastered).

I successfully extracted the 3D model from the file bomb.gr2, with the following simple (*cough cough*) steps:
1. Extract .gr2 with a program I found called grnreader98, which outputs a Source Engine-style .smd model
2. Edit the .smd by hand to fix issues with the header
3. Open the .gr2 with another program Granny Viewer, which only views (doesn't extract) the texture
4. Use another program GLXtractor to rip the texture data from Granny Viewer's OpenGL context (This can also output an .obj with the mesh data, but without UV coordinates and rotated strangely, so I ignore this)
5. Import the .smd into Blender with an import script I found online
6. Remove extraneous vertices from the mesh (looks like collision data and the like)
7. Translate the UV coordinates upwards, as they're incorrect
8. Flip the normals, as they're incorrect
9. Scale the model to a more reasonable size
10. Import the model texture
11. Export .obj, unchecking export normals
12. Manually edit the .mtl to have relative, rather than absolute, file path to UV texture

The results are pretty good-looking (Blender render):

My question is if much of anything is known about the .gr2 file format, and if there's an easier way to do this? From my online searches, it looked like the people who knew the most about the format didn't share source code or didn't document it, but it looked like a lot of different games, like Civ 5, use it.

TL;DR I'd like to rip this (Other game formats are .tex and .anb, which I have experience with), but repeating these steps over and over for all 397 of the game's .gr2 files sounds rather daunting.

EDIT: Upon further digging, seems that .gr2 is a Granny Engine - specific format, which is a proprietary format by RAD Game Tools. Everybody else just used a function in a Granny .dll to extract the files. So this may be the best that can be done... kinda sucks.

Hey everyone. I've been coming to The Spriter's Resource for quite a few years, and also like browsing the Model Resource area of the site. I figured I'd go ahead and join finally. I am an avid Nintendo fan, and enjoy a wide range of other games. I tend to lean towards platformers, and adventure style games, and like to live in the past. Mario, Zelda, and Rayman (sans the Rabbid spin-offs. I don't do puzzle/ mini game things) are some of my favorite franchises.

I'm a hobbyist game designer, and have used GM, and Zelda Classic for quite a while. I haven't used GM in a while though. I also really like making stuff in 3D. I don't sprite, animate, or mess with textures, but I do like making the actual models. I focus more on environments, and have used Sketch-UP for a pretty long time. I'm trying to get into Blender, and have used it on and off for years too, but it is really hard to get into, and they are always making huge changes to its interface, so its hard to learn cause most tuts are outdated. Anywho, I hope to hang around for a while. I probably won't actually post too much, but at least now I have the option.

I know two members here from another forum. I saw koh, and DragonDePlatino both post here. Good to see some familiar faces Smile

No problem now. Was a joke evidently.

Arjahn from the other forum said he's being held captive, over steam.

I'm in Texas, Arjahn is being held at 1442 West Menstral Road. I can't find it, I don't know who to call, I don't know Spanish. Someone help!

He says he's in Mexico.

066 isn't responding.

Anyone in Mexico who can do this?

False alarm, it was a joke.

Hey there. I'm S3K Stage (Stage for short), and I'm here to show off my mildly interesting sprites! I generally play platform games like Mario, Sonic, and Kirby, and a few others. A narrow range of interests, I know.

Besides spriting, another major hobby of mine is drawing.

Yeah that's about it.

Yeah, the name is rather odd. But it fits, as this is kinda a "random" pixel art mess full of my works.

This is from an old document I had laying around. Here, we have a dog. The llama from Donkey Kong 64 (Unfinished) and some random weapons.

So, ummm... I'll be posting here every blue moon. I would also like some criticism.

Greetings!

Hey everyone!

Been poking around on here for a while and signed up the other day. Decided it's time to say hello to all you creative people! I see plenty of talent and great ideas on this board so I'm pumped to connect with some of you! My main goal for signing up here is to look for a few good people to collaborate on a game for monetary compensation (not industry pay mind you but pay none-the-less). I'll be posting about that in the "commissions" section shortly so you can check there if interested. Also, are there any other online communities based on game engines/3D models etc. that you can recommend I also join? I see lots of communities around but I'd rather get feedback on what ones are positive experiences as I've come across several in the past with mostly negative users. I know most boards will have pros and cons but I'd like to try and steer towards the positive energy! Smile

It will definitely result in a cease and desist letter. Looking for people that will work on it for pay but not take credit. All credit will be given to a company name that I will register to take the downfall should there be any. It will actually be a remake of 1 level from an older game. Models from model-resource will be used. I bring zero to the table other than money and direction so I'll need people that can do the rest. Let me know if you're interested!

Looking for character models (and textures) from Animal Crossing: New Leaf

$

Hi all, I'm looking for a number of character models from Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS, and I'd be willing to pay someone with the time and resources to rip them. I tried to do it myself but I got stuck at the point where you need a physical 3DS with old enough firmware in order to decrypt the game's file system, and I don't particularly want to go out and get new hardware just for this if I can avoid it.

I'm new to this site (and forums in general), so I apologize if I'm not providing enough information about what I want. Please feel free to ask questions and I'll answer and update this post.

The first thing I'd like to ask is: what would people in this community consider a reasonable price per character (for example, how much roughly would you expect to be compensated for ripping Isabelle's model with only one texture for facial expression and clothes)?

If at all possible I would like to stick to the same person to rip all of the models and pay for them one at a time as they are ripped so that we can develop a relationship of trust.

If the person who rips the models would like to post them on the Models Resource site afterwards, that would not be a problem.

Much appreciated!
