It has been way too long since I had a thread where I showcase my sprite rips. So I want to start this thread with something big.

Alexandria from Castle In The Darkness is devided into two stages. This is the second half. You might wonder where the first part is.
Every screen in the game is 480x320 pixels, so the full sheet should be divisible in 480x320 rooms. However, it turns out I somehow missed 4 rows of pixels in Alexandria 1. Right now the sheet is 9596x2240 while it should be 9600x2240. This is why Alexandria 1 is not up yet. Before I noticed the issue I began work on Agros Forest. I just found where the pixels are missing. I'm fixing and submitting it now.

I am trying to use tile layer pro to rip sprites some NES games, but I don't know how to get a palette or if it would be compatible. My emulator of choice is FCEUX 2.2, but I can use other emulators as long as they are for Windows.

So, my mom and i did shopping today...

Well, during the several hours of time my dad had on the computer to do stupid/dangerous shit...

This pc is running slower than ever

The AV is eating all the CPU

Internet connectivity is null and void...

I had to re-start it...
How tempting it is to call "dear old daddy" 's bluff...
emails my god damn ass! A select few individuals are on emails all day. Even I, while logged-in all day, am not checking them every second. Nope... I game, chat, mess with hacking/programming.
paying bills... FOR FIVE FUCKING HOURS?!
oh, turbotax, which makes taxes so easy, is a pain in the ass
and ofc... "say, why do you need to hide the screen so fast?"

I hope I can get my "new" laptop set-up and running FAST... My mom's pc I'm  officially declaring to be at defcon-1.

What lurks inside I do not know exactly, as nothing is finding anything, but i just KNOW virus has rendered the thing near inoperable, and is slowly killing it.

Only good thing is my mom and i got a really good router to replace the crappy linksys wr1t0n that refuses to connect after our isp had us trade the modem in. (i tried resets, it's not working...and research revealed it can be considered a defective model) Anyways, that should enable more than one pc to be connected to the internet.

But, yeah...I'm likely to go MIA for a bit...
Even if i get set-up with the laptop... it'll be a while before I post anything much more. At best, I may lurk...

Sorry to report this...
And sorry if i seem in an irritable mood...
bad enough keeping my cool explaining the tech crap I know to my mom...
But CONSTANTLY having to repair the damage my father can do because of his complete disregard for internet safety protocol... That grinds my gears like no other... My blood is boiling right now... I wanna kill him!

Why must I bear the full load of every damn thing that goes wrong here?
Cry Angry
I'm sick of it.
I want to talk with my friends.
I want to play games.
I want to make games.
I want to learn various things.
And between scheduling conflicts and having to play IT tech of the household, I CANNOT DO IT...DAMMIT!

IDK what I'll do if my mom loses this computer...
I think if it does happen I'm just gonna let-loose on my father how much i really did know... Tired of pretending to get along. Chew his ass out nice and good. "Well, now that the pc is dead, give-up the charades. I know what you did, when you did it. I know what sites you were on. Why do you even bother hiding it? I hope you feel good, hope you enjoyed it. You proud you've ruined another computer, forever destroyed another several gigabytes of unreplaceable files? That you put the entire family at risk in a whole variety of ways?"

anyways, bye for now...
hope to return soon...

Highway Trouble 2 [PC]

Several months ago I was working on it as a mobile game. Due to the game was poorly executed for phones and I was lazy and demotivated so I cancelled it.

However I started working on it once again (well I got more time recently and the Android version got almost 3000 downloads!!! And I also decide to put indie game development on a short break*) but this time it's for PC (possibly Ubuntu and Mac) and I am not planning to expand the mobile version.

Anyways ladies and gentlemen, I present you:
PC version!

Video:

What's different from Highway Trouble 1?
  • Gameplay is way improved
  • Sprites are mostly done my myself
  • I will try to keep the levels entertaining rather than repeating things like Highway Trouble 1
  • It's possible to survive on the highway surface
  • Clones' AI are way improved
  • Cars can either tailgating or not, and they have two levels to land on instead of one
  • Player can no longer double jump nor shoot down nor throwing grenades (too complex for most people and grenade are quite useless)
  • It's a bit easier
  • Some enemy vehicles will take damage if you tries to ram into it with your car
  • Indications for those who don't have common sense
  • Not just Mario/Luigi/Yoshi Clones. There will be Koopas, furbies, possibly shroobs.
That's about it I guess but more to come!

Downloads:
As for right now I will not post a download link until I got 5 levels done.

This game is Michael Bay approved.

P.S. I know this is a unique concept and some of y'all may thinking this should be an indie game. I am quite bad creating original characters and I do plan to add several Mario elements in future levels. I'm sorry but if I like to make Mario games (besides indie game development).

*My primary target platform (Android and Windows Phone) export module (Game Maker: Studio) is full of bugs. On Android it crashes a lot and Windows Phone it lags and/or no touch response. I submitted my bug report but YoYo Games decide not to roll out an update for a while now.

I was asked to try and extract sound from THE iDOLM@STER Mobile i. It is apparently stored in .nus3bank files. I did some research and tried extracting them, but to no avail. Does someone else want to take a crack at them?

Here they are.

Ripping audio from "Gex: Enter the Gecko"?

$

I've taken an .iso of the game and opened it with PSound. I can play the audio files and listen to Gex's voice clips, but there's one problem: the audio only plays for about two seconds before cutting off. This makes it impossible to listen to any of the longer files, which is sorely disappointing.
Converting the files to .wav does nothing to fix this, as those won't play properly either.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? People have ripped voices from the first and third games in the series and I thought it was time for someone to try the second one.

Genesis game sprites ripping

I am curious if there are any emulators that has a sprite viewer like MAME emulator has?

Particular looking to extract the font from "The Immortal" from Genesis/X32. I know Roket has extracted most of the other sprites but font and tiles.
I am able to use screenshot capture to extract some of the font like below, cut out and rearrange the font.

However, I know in some cases there are entire font available in a game but some of the letters are never used.
Is there a way to view/extract/dump the rest of the fonts if they are never shown in game?

Best Regards,

Hi,

I'm trying to read all the images files on the playstation game Ehergeiz.

I've tried tim viewers which only give a fraction of the games content and I've tried GGD, TiledGGD, and Tile Molester but I can't get the images clear enough to tell what they are despite hours upon hours of tweaking.

Is there any other way I can go about getting the image data or could someone give me some help on the subject?

I would GREATLY appreciate any help!

So I've been reading about ripping models from video games.A lot of the people I've talked to said I would have to download the ROMs online.I decided to read up on Nintendo's policy on ROMs and emulators.Apparently, it is illegal to download a ROM offline, even if you own a physical copy of that game.Is this true?

I know that the tex files has textures and all, but is there a tool, script, or program that can extract these textures? Reason why i'm asking is cause I want to get the env textures ripped and have them on hand for future modeling use.

How do I install HomeBrew for Wii and Clean Rip?

So I decided I'm gonna attempt to rip some models off some of my games. And what I want to do is Rip the ISO off the game disk so I'm not doing anything that breaks the ROM laws. But I want to make sure I don't brick my wii in the process.Im gonna then use the Dolphin emulator to extract the models on my Mac.Whats the safest way to install the neccasary software and can I get a step by step instructions?

Main Questions:

1. What is the safest way to install the HomeBrew Channel without destroying my Wii?

2. What are the step-by-step instructions for that process?

3.How do I extract the Files?

4. Can I extract the models via the Dolphin Emulator?

Thank you for reading this thread.

Hello!

Technically this isn't my first time here. I was a member YEARS ago when the site first started.

I had a bunch of names. "Pretendo" was the very first and I only submitted like 3 sheets. It wasn't until Cary "Omega" Frank that I got kinda noticed. (I think a few sheets are still on TsR actually -- maaaaybe Wart's thrown room?) I was a top spriter at one point too... I'm not bragging. Just giving a little history I guess. the whole scene can be childish and silly but I like pixel work as a hobby so here I am. I can't quite remember the names of people I was around but there are a few. "Bacon" I think was running the site. Toadcarter? Tonberry2K? Then eventually I didn't see eye to eye with a few people and just left the scene.

Anyways now I'm back, submitting here and there... Speaking of which...

How do I submit?! I've been looking for a half hour now! lol

So hello everyone  Smile  My name is Cary but when it comes to pixel work now a use the tag bEEtle.

Edit: Heeeeey I found it:

Hey everyone, I figured I'd post some sprites here to see if I could get some feedback and critique perhaps. The stuff I'll post is organised from most recent to oldest.

I've mostly been trying to refine the 'basic' techniques of spriting, but as of late I kinda feel as if I've lost direction on what to work on, so maybe you guys can help me out with that. Either way, thanks for looking. Have a good day and see you around!

Contact Damage

$

This aspect of game design many rely on has become more and more irritating to me these days.  I've some reasons against this design decision, that I'll quote from my post on Soul Saver Online's forum below.

Quote:I've been playing this game for a little while now, and am Level 53.  The gameplay itself is decent, but as I've been playing, the levels of frustration have been increasing more and more because of this design aspect.  Contact damage for enemies in no way compliments the gameplay, nor the map design of this game.  Here's a couple of reasons to support my claim.

1.  In general, contact damage is a dated and lazy way out of making defined attack animations for each and every enemy.  Back in the early days of gaming and the 8-bit era, memory was very expensive and limited, meaning there was only so much memory available to use to have all the graphics required to make a complete game, such as tile graphics, character graphics, Heads Up Display (HUD) graphics, and so on.  So contact damage was a way to save resources such that memory could be used for other aspects of the game.  Since the 16-bit era, however, games have arisen that no longer ran into the issue of memory in regards to contact damage, such as Secret of Mana, a game released nearly 20 years ago.  This game, along with many others, did not have to rely on contact damage to save memory; every enemy had a defined attack animation and range, such that the player can clearly see when and where an enemy is attacking.  If a nearly 20 year old game can accomplish this with far less resources available than we have today, there's absolutely no excuse for games in this day and age to rely on contact damage.  This game already sports defined attack animations for enemies, so that's already in place.  There's no need to have contact damage stacked with this, unless it makes sense for the enemy's design.  For example, Keburi monsters that are basically living fires.  Touching fire hurts, so it makes sense there, or a monster covered in spikes.

2.  In most cases, it does not compliment the game design.  Especially in regards to MMOs like this one, Soul Saver Online, where enemies are randomly respawning on the current map.  Since they hurt by touch and do that, unsuspecting players take unnecessary damage, which could even kill them, just because they didn't have any reaction time, nor could they see, the enemy spawning on top of them.  That in and of itself is a bad game design aspect.  Also, the map design in this game features of lot of areas with tight corridors, or even just a bunch of enemies on platforms, where it's near impossible to traverse the map without taking damage.  Assassins have the great solution of Hiding to this, but that's not available to every class, nor can you use it in the Avatar form.
Contact damage was a necessity on early consoles and 8-bit machines for memory reasons.  The 16 bit era proved it is no longer necessary, so there's no reason one would need to rely on it in this day and age.
