Game Series That Are Best 2D (or 3D)

$

As the title states, what games series do you think generally plays better in certain dimensions?  For the sake of discussion, 2.5 D is fine, but counts as 2D, because while the game uses 3D assets, it plays like a 2D game.

Well for starters, the Zelda series.  Not that any of the 3D games are BAD or anything, but I feel the most creative puzzles and items came from the 2D games, and worked well within that medium since there's no stipulations to adhere to as there are when working in 3D space.  For example, A Link to the Past's/Oracle of Ages' Cane of Somaria, Oracle of Ages' Switch Hook, Oracle of Seasons'/Four Swords' Magnetic Gloves, Minish Cap's Cane of Pacci.  These concepts would be totally broken in 3D space, since they'd completely affect the area design in a way that prevents  the entire layout of the puzzle from being seen at once, due to having to compensate for verticality and camera angles.

Sonic series.  The running at the speed of sound and platforming just feels cleaner in a 2D environment.  With 3D space, you got camera angle interference and constant changing.  For example, doing any kind of loop in a 3D game takes a lot longer than it would in a 2D game, because the camera wants to show how cool it is.

Final Fantasy series.  Seeing the nice pixel work and such, in 2D, when it came to the monsters and party, seeing their expressionism and such.  With the 3D games, more often than not, the camera is positioned in a way that you can't see any of that (pulled far back, or at an angle where you can't even see their faces).

Seiken Densetsu 3: Riesz

Hello, there!
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been playing through Seiken Densetsu 3 for one purpose: compile a sheet of Riesz. (I guess two purposes. It's a fun game I felt like replaying.) Hoo boy, I was not expecting it to be this involved, but I've made really good progress. Here's what I have so far:

http://i.imgur.com/4vzBGZI.png

I'm hoping to find the "Wave" and "Head Shake" poses by the endgame, but nothing yet, unfortunately... The layout of the sheet to the left of the orange line is what I'm planning to have it, with the Chibikko (mini) sprites probably going in the blank area above the instruments/Sword of Mana sprites. I'll also probably move her portrait/profile to the bottom of the sheet.
But the main reason for this thread is for a bit of advice I need.
-Is the spacing for the sprites okay?
-Is the background color fine? It doesn't interfere with some of her other class colors?
-Are the palette squares for the different classes a reasonable size?
-Should I keep the special attacks as they are? i.e., leave her in the colors of the class that uses it?
-In that same vein, should I include the Fenrir Knight special attack? All she does is perform a string of her basic attacks against an enemy (https://youtu.be/0Rb91C232Sg?t=319) and it seems like a waste of space to include all those for the 3 directions she can face.
-Should I include her summons as well? I know there are a couple of sheets already here that have them, but should/can they be put here for completion's sake? (Freya's currently on there)

Sorry for the big wall of text, and thanks in advance for any advice you give!

Spriter Progress

Hello everyone, I'm new in these forums. Just wanted to tell you all about my backstory as an spriter, as well as showcase some of my recent work and receive some feedback.

First off, Gardevoir.
  • This was my first attempt at spriting without using someone else's sprite.
  • It's pillow-shaded.
  • And before you start throwing bad comments at me...
[Image: _old__gardevoir_v_1_0_by_tmanex2013-dab7zfu.png]
  • Huge difference, right?
  • Something was off about this one so I decided to give it a redesign.
[Image: gardevoir_v2_0_by_tmanex2013-dabegno.png]
  • The final product came out to be this version of Gardevoir.
  • Not the best, but I sure made some good progress, right?
Okay, that was it for Gardevoir. Now off to my other recent spritework:

Some of the characters I've sprited. Let me know which one is your favorite so far, and what I could do to progress more.

Dillon from Dillon's Rolling Western.
I love how this one came out, asides from him being my all-time favorite Nintendo character, I'm really fond of this sprite.

That wraps up the showcase. Any opinions, suggestions, or even requests?

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

All right, I've been trying to properly rip from this game for a while now. It DOES use the standard nsbmd and nsbtx formats, however, upon conversion of the models, they ALWAYS have completely destroyed UV's. For some bizarre reason these models do not convert properly. The textures are easily converted of course, but the UV's of the models mess up on any of the models, making ripping them virtually impossible. I was hoping someone could figure out the problem here so I can get certain models from this game. Here are a few samples.

Code Lyoko: Fall of XANA Models [Attachments Added]

Hi. So I'm trying to rip from the game "Code Lyoko: Fall of XANA" for Nintendo DS.

So here's the problem. I've been trying for the past several days to get the character/enemy/vehicle models out of this game. This is what I've got at the moment.

I was recommended to use Tinke for ripping things from NDS games.
Disreguarding the Video files, this is what's in there.

So Then Futurer/ThatTrueStruggle wrote a QuickBMS Script to extract the files stored in it.

None of the files have extensions, so I sorted them by the combination of letters at the end.
This is where the road ends, none of these files make any sense to me. Logically what I'm looking for would be in E3D, but none of the character or enemy names appear. They seem to appear in EBN, EMH, and TXR is probably the textures.

EDIT: Attempting to load all the files in Tinke, here's the results:
NANR is "Animation" files, judging by the names, they're sprites.
NCBR are "Tiles" files, also sprite related.
NCER are "Cells" files, sprite related.
NCGR are more "Tiles" files, has references to both backgrounds and sprites.
NCLR are all Palettes for the backgrounds.
    NFTR is fonts.
    NSCR is "Maps"

Everything else appears as "Unknown"
So how do I crack these files?

Linked below are what I believe to be model data for one of the enemies, along with what hopefully is the texture.

This is the biggest file of the four, so this likely contains the model.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/m5cyc1...NKRELA_EBN

This is the second biggest, not sure what it is.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/td86d6...NKRELA_EMH

Both of these come from the TXR folder I made, they're the same size, so possibly the same thing.

I've gone through all the steps for the simple apk extraction, however when I go into the actual folder, most of the images don't work/won't open.

All the files with the default image won't seem to open and i'm unsure why?
Is there anything I can do to view these files?

[Rev-Share] Looking for Amateur Artists for Pixel Art Game

$

Hello, I am part of a small group of young, determined college students who have decided to create a pixel art game over the summer. We are currently finishing the design phase of things and would like to move on to art/code, thus, we are in need of a couple artists to help bring our game to life.
It is worth noting, of course, that we are amateurs, and we expect the same from you. We don't have much experience in this field, and we are creating this to learn as much as we can before we move on to fuller-sized games. With that said, we are still very determined to create this game, we have a steady workflow, and we try our absolute best to create the most appealing product possible. We would like to make a name for ourselves and have projects under our belt for the future, and so we hope you want the same.
We would prefer artists of our gauge, so that we can learn and grow together, but there is always much to learn even for seasoned pixel artists. Down below are the requirements to apply.
Requirements:
- 18 years or older
- Previous digital work/portfolio of work (something to show us your style and perception)
- Passion for making games, and the excitement and diligence to work on a game
- Skype & English speaking
Please send me an email at leafteabrew@gmail.com with your contact info and your portfolio, and what country you are located in.

Tools to convert Spyro A Hero's Tail sfx files

I'm looking for a way to extract/convert sfx files into wavs that are from the GameCube version of Spyro: A Hero's Tail and I want to extract all sounds and music from them. Somehow, a user named "ManDude" in the Cutting Room Floor has managed to rip the samples and post it there. Right now, I don't know what converter he used and I've tried digging in Google for tools designed to convert the Spyro audio files, but there aren't any results for it.

I have a sample that I want to convert:

Metal Slug 6 (PS2) - Need help with sprite ripping

Hello, I'm new to sprite ripping and this is my first time ripping sprites, it would be great if the community here can help me through this.

As you know, I'm trying to rip sprites from the game Metal Slug 6. My main and only objective is the Sea Worm (this).
Some of you might wonder why I didn't choose the Arcade version. Well, so far, I haven't found any MAME that could run the game assets correctly, or even be able to run the game.

After reading some tutorials, I have got PCSX2 (ver 1.4.0) and uMod (V2.0 alpha r53) as my tools.
However, I can't set up uMod to work correctly with PCSX2.
I have tried all the methods below but none of them worked:

Everytime I boot the CDVD [Metal Slug 6 (Japan).iso] with PCSX2, the emulator crashes. While it doesn't crash without the global hook enabled, nothing appear in the textures save folder.

My PCSX2 settings for Video:

Should you need any further information, feel free to ask me on this thread.
Thank you.
