DQ Gaiden: A Starry Legend

I've been working on a Dragon Quest Fan Game.

Using the RPG Maker VX I've been slowly changing things be more DQ/EBZero like in terms of battling.
I really like dragonquest and doing this to completion will allow me to make my own custom game using the edited engine. I already posted a very early demo however this newer one will have a lot of the mechanics fleshed out.

Most people look down on RPG Maker games however with competent hands it's a very good engine.(Mostly)
It's all a matter of how much you are willing to common event.

So far all things Dragon quest can be achieved in RPG maker VxAce.

Here's a look at the prolouge:
Here's videos of what I'm adding:

Let me know what you think! It's for those who ever played the games particularly the GBC versions!

Oops, suppose I should have done this before. I'm not much of a forum goer. I'm SickALice. I'm a retro gamer who loves comic books and cartoons, anything nostalgic. I have a deep love for Ninja Turtles. I've been trying my hand at game dev and modding for years and I'm a pretty studied 3d modeler. Above anything else I plan to contribute as many TMNT models as I can figure out. I like helping and I'm always open to contribution requests. Else personal stuff I travel a bit, I love animals, I'm currently attending school for math and peer support, though slowly as I suffer a genetic condition (hence the Sick) though this also affords me plenty of time to work on art and of course models. Otherwise I spend my time as a dedicated member of my community, mostly working the outreach programs to help the homeless, economically disadvantaged, mentally ill, disabled and/or minorities. That's about it, I'm pretty boring. Games I'm playing as of this post are Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and TMNT Legends.

A dot, a passion, a living

Disclaimer: All explanations in here are personal and thus should not be taken as the only way to make Pixelart. This is for didatic purposes only. Do not copy this text or post it as your own. Thank you.

Preface
Pixelart is an art media that is older than you might think. Thriving as mosaic, then as embroidery, many of pixelart's elements can be traced back to those ancient medias. Creating pixelart is enjoyable, as long as you build the stepping stones of what is a pixelart, and how much you can extract out of it. Think about it as a dictionary for pixelart. I want you to browse and look up for the meanings of the terms, and practice them yourself.

Getting Started
I'll be working on this thread during the course of this year. I have learned lots of things since the last time I made the current Pixelart Dictionary, and this is the moment to improve upon it. Nothing better than a pixelartist to talk about pixelart, much like you want a programmer to deal with programming and a musician to make music. I want to have full control of what is being made here, is all.

I'll create each entry in this thread as its own post, so that you can easily browse between them. This also means, I'd appreciate if no one posted here until I'm finished. If you really need to talk about it, send me a PM and I'll work on it. Additionally, since I'm no longer a mod, this means that the forum programming will automatically merge my posts if I attempt to make many posts in succession, so I'll have to wait at least 1 hour until I make the next entry. I apologize for the slow start, but I intend to create something that will be more durable than the current thread.

History
Pixelart is above all, an art of non-complexity. Not in the sense that it is easy to make, far from it. But it is a media that requires the piece to be understood clearly even in a small resolution. A pixel is the lowest graphical element in a pixelart, and thus some detail is lost in the process. Additionally, game cartridges came with very limited graphical capabilities, which further crippled the way you can make pixelart in a game. It's a media about using resources well, in a strategical manner, to represent an element, or a character. This gives Pixelart a very iconic feel - each frame or each character is like a symbol that is read - and being able to quickly discern it is the speciality of this media.

There is no such thing as "half-a-pixel", and while you can mimic it, there are inherent complications on how to represent a given graphic. This in turn gives us a whole slew of terms that are not only art-related, but Pixelart-only terms that needs to be understood. This Tutorial's aim is to provide you, the reader, a better understanding of those techniques, with examples and how to make them.

Annoyingly bad games

what are some games that just make you cringe? like a game that you can't even stand the sight of? and i know how a lot of people like playing poorly-made games for grins and giggles (sonic 06, CDI games, etc.), but what's a game that you can't even see yourself playing because it's just really pointless and not the least bit entertaining in any aspect?

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/20...his-summer
this is one of mine, and for whatever strange reason they're porting it to smartphones...imo it's probably one of the worst games out there. sure there were probably some comedic ideas behind it, but i sure as hell don't get it.

VirtuaFighter 1 Model problems..

I've no experience in ripping models and textures, but I found a program that was able to extract the model data from the PC version (Which is VF1 Remix), I can't seem to get the texture files to open correctly though, anyone have any experience in this? Also a really neat thing to note; The models are exactly the same as the original Saturn game outside the faces that were adjusted for texture maps instead of polys. (So I just slapped some materials on it to test, everything's exactly the same.)
Anyway, I'd love to see more Saturn rips(/pc ports), though seeing how these work...I can definitely see why there aren't.
EditSadForgot to mention, they are all triangulated as this is the pc port saddly..No quads  Sad )

I ripped this sometime last year, outside of just wanting to pose him for pictures and use him for a drawing I didn't give it a second thought but.. Anywhoo here he is.
(This version doesn't have armatures, while the one that is posing in the back does as this is the bare model.)

Additional Pose for Neo Metal Sonic

I am having a project that I am opening to others, but I am going to participate in myself. Its to get this Neo Metal Sonic Sprite into a nice size.

The original pose (standing) was made by Xeon. I'm hoping to get the number of poses to be close to the ModGen Metal Sonic sprites on the site as well as throwing in a bit of extra stuff (like the Zero Blade animation for example). I will be updating this from time to time but any help will be appreciated. I'm especially looking for a Neo Metal Sonic looking down head since that looks to be in a lot of the Metal Sonic sheet above. If you can help, you will be credited when the sheet is complete and uploaded to the Spriters Resource.

EDIT: Added side head as well as completed sword swing animation. They're on the bottom because I feel they could be done better.

The original swings by Danman.

Parsing .BCH to find textures

I've been working with the character models from Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, as you can see in this post (which has been resolved).

Anyway, I've got various programs that can extract the textures from the .BCH models, but replacing these textures using Ohana3DS causes them to get re-encode with particularly bad ETC1A4 compression. What I'd like to do is convert the textures myself first, using a conversion tool from ARM that can optimise the quality, then replace the textures with a hex editor.

Problem: The textures don't appear to have any headers in the .BCH file, so I can't find the precise spots to replace. I've been able to estimate their locations by copying the .BCH and replacing a single texture in one of them, then comparing the files, but it's not very helpful.

Request: Can anybody help me understand how a .BCH file indexes/stores the textures, or how any programs go about finding/extracting them? Alternatively, extracting the textures in their original format instead of converting to .PNG would help me understand. There is a bch2png Python script by smealum here (below the bch2obj script), but I don't know enough Python to make sense of it. Sad Thanks!

Hi. I'm trying to open the .bfsar file contained in data\content\sound\urals_common. However, I can't seem to find out how to extract them properly. I've tried every guide there is online, so there's no need to say "LOL JUST GOOGLE IT SmileSmileSmileSmile))SmileSmile)SmileSmileSmileSmile" when I've probably already tried that one. Please, someone help me to extract these properly Smile

Teenage Mutant Ninja Models

For the past decade or so I've been waiting for the PS2/Gamecube-era TMNT models to crop up on this site. However, it seems to me that all you have is Shredder from Smash Up (unless I'm missing something). Anyway, my plan is to join this site and throw money at the problem. I can't seem to find a price range... so IDK PM me if interested? If not interested... can you at least give me some pointers? Would it be better to get one person to do everything, or assign one game to each ripper?

I keep making mistakes on revisions, mainly uploading the wrong file. I'd really like a way to cancel these, especially since they are often approved anyway, resulting in an incorrect sheet.

I want J-Stars Victory VS Models for Blender Animations

I'm willing to pay anyone who can get me the models with its textures from J-Stars Victory VS and setup a mini-tutorial on how they did it.
Now this commission might be a little difficult.
From what I understand, after looking through this site, the models are compressed in some sort unknown file format. So no one so far has been able to get them properly. I cannot accept that! I want them to be free so that anyone can use these Jump characters in whatever project they what! They just need someone to show them the way.
The characters models I'm after is Medaka Kurokami.

It is not necessary to have them ready for blender. I just want the model with its textures but I will pay extra if you can. I don't know what the usual price rate for this kind of thing so I'm open for any price suggestions. Send me a PM to discuses the price for each character.

Kirb's Art Thread

Just a thread where I can post art that I'm working on or finished. I can't do it on Mario Fan Games Galaxy's forums because, well, I'm banned from there until this date and time:
So, I guess I'll be hanging around here for a while.

Now that that's out of the way, let's get on with the sprites.
Pretty much some "modern" sprites of my Shy Guy character, Kirb Berry. I know that the Sonic jump needs some work, as I'm having trouble figuring the sprites out. Any help/feedback would be appreciated. Plus, I pretty much made these for when I get more affiliated with Adobe Flash so I can animate my own version of Super Mario Bros. Z, as I do that with a lot of my sprites.

...I have a big imagination for a 15 year old.

EDIT: To avoid double posting, here's something else I've started working on.
It's based on a sprite sheet someone on DA made where they ripped sprites of the characters out of Super Mario Bros. Z's episodes. I just felt like making this for fun, and I might make poses of other Mario styles too, like SMB1 and SMB3 SNES.

Grief Syndrome Spriterips

Hey guys,

I know I'm after help for ripping from a dead game here, but I'm trying to get the main character sprites out of Grief Syndrome. I know they were being worked on at one point and I can pull them up in TiledGGD, but I'm too much of a newbie to ripping get the right combination of settings. The palettes are always way off, and I can't seem to figure out how to fix them. Any tips, or is it just a ton of trial and error?

Thanks so much!
