Sonic Adventure 2 body problems

I'm attempting to rip models from the Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure 2 using SAMDL. However, I've run into a major issue. While it'll export heads, hand, and feet, characters' bodies don't export without error. So I'm getting stuff like this:

.png   Bodiless.png (Size: 70.21 KB / Downloads: 3)

Does anyone have a clue what's going on? Specifically, the error I get says "Error(s) encountered during export. Inspect the output file for more details."

Also, it will only load models of playable characters, so bosses and stuff are inaccessible.

There's supposedly another program for this purpose floating around out there made by Sanik, but I can't find it.

Because Gors is a very talented individual and you should check out his stuff: https://www.youtube.com/user/NewAgeRetroGamer
And Gors, if your reading, keep up the great work! Big Grin

After listening to his Super Mario Sunshine tracks, I thought that since I never really played the actual game, I would totally play it if it were redone in a classic Mario NES style. I think if any modern 3D game were remade for the NES, even AAA titles that I'm not a fan of, I would probably play them anyway since I'm grew up with NES games.

Leaving for quite a bit.

Not going to explain why, since it's a tad personal.

I dunno when I'll be back, though.

Is there an easier way to rip from Flash games?

I know about Animget, how you can use it to get full screenshots and dig sprites out with Photoshop's wand and patience, and I would begrudgingly put up with that most of the time.  In this case, though, I'm eyeing a flash game with a pesky auto-zooming camera and lots of annoying foreground objects.  Is there a way finagle in around this sort of thing for sprites.

Music in games

music is very important in a game

like... usually i'd want it to sound good
but it's also a sensorial cue
you can condition a person through music - and make it relate to complex things musically
for example I play a music while the screen turns red, then it means red relates to that song in particular
then any instances of that song would have to do with red
usually this works for character themes - but i think you can apply it to completely abstract things

what's interesting about music is that they are lingering - you can have fun playing but the music is what remains the most in the head, as melodies

the simple hearing of the music reminds you of the gameplay, and vice-versa - so they're almost only one entity

There is a place for every type of music: ambient-oriented and melody-oriented, but the best bet is to make them fit the actual scene in-game

But it's very hard to do that... music is not a visual art, how can you make a music that looks like a mountain, for example?

Sound cues are much more subtle, and if you want to compose something entirely new, this is a very hard task

For you, how important is music in video games?

Like original leaked Alpha Demo of Jazz Jackrabbit 3 from year 1999 3D modellers, animators, map designers and programmers should use Epic Games Launcher or Unreal Engine 4 to revive third installment of Jazz Jackrabbit.

I'm aware that something is wrong here (aside from not putting which animation is which but i forgot), so any feedback would be welcome... I hope.

Sorry for starting so many threads - last one for now, I promise ;v;.

Anyway, I like flying around and shooting bright shiny things at other things that fly around and shoot bright shiny things in odd patterns that are usually near-impossible to avoid. I definitely get more enjoyment from the graphics - but there are a few gameplay elements that I'm picky about (powerups, health/lives, special abilities, etc)

You may or may not already know that I prefer shooters that involve human pilots (playing as a person who can fly rather than a machine/aircraft). Espgaluda is my favorite vertical, and Deathsmiles and Cotton 2 are at a tie for my favorite horizontal.

Classics like Galaga and Gradius implement impressive game design technique, but they don't really fit my casual-gaming taste. In other words, I prefer a shooter that isn't too difficult so that I can immerse myself without concentrating too hard on finishing the game. Basically, modern shooters are calm and peaceful Disney rides while classics are extreme rollercoasters.

I would be up to playing a few Touhou games, but my machine is not powerful enough to run them efficiently. And I'm done with using virtual machines (for reasons besides making games in Clickteam Fusion).

Good Sprite Animation Programs?

$
0

Greetings, Midday here.

I recently found Photoshop to be less useful for sprite animations than I previously thought, and I've long since abandoned using Flash for sprite animations except as a compiler for exporting as .SWF. I usually make my animations in Photoshop, then export them to Flash and compile them in Flash. But lately I found that Photoshop doesn't really do what I really need in making sprite animations--it's lacking in shaped motion paths, which is like, really important if I ever want to do something like fake gameplay vids of my planned fan games or for my planned original games that all use sprites.

Which brings me to my question: anyone know of good sprite animation programs, besides Photoshop and besides Flash?

I need the following features in the sprite animation program:

* motion tweens
* shape motion paths
* auto-align to pixel grid for sprites in each frame of animation
* able to be exported as .PSD, .FLA, or .SWF or other file type supported by Photoshop/Flash

Some features that are preferred but not necessary:
* able to add audio tracks or sound effects
*  able to alter the speed/acceleration of objects that are on the shaped motion paths without having to do it manually frame-by-frame

I am willing to purchase such a program if it's the best animation program out there, but otherwise I'd rather have something completely free.

Basically I'd like to get an animation program that can make stuff approximating SNES-quality animations or GBA-quality animations.

Help would be much appreciated!

Alignment problem with MAME TMAP viewer

$

Hello,

I use MAME tmap viewer (F4 whan playing, then ENTER twice to see the tiled maps) to rip backgrounds from games, and I noticed that there's always a missing column of pixels in my captures, causing the tiles not to be aligned any more.

I have to shift the image by one pixel (if I find precisely where the missing column is, which can be hard on almost black backgrounds), and take another screenshot to get back the missing column (and I have another missing column further, etc.)

I precise that I run the games at their native resolution.

It seems to occur approximatively at the middle of the window.

Is there some setting I'd have missed ? Or is it a bug ? If it's a bug, is it known, and if not where to report it ?
