Multiverse Mashup Sprite Critique

$

Hey! I'm new to the forums but I've always been a fan of the site. I'm working on a passion project of mine called Multiverse Mashup. The idea is a Smash Bros-ish mascot party brawler with half-original-half-homage characters from very different universes fighting each other. The look of the project is supposed to be reminiscent of Nintendo published NES era games (like Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Kid Icarus) but with a slightly more modern aesthetic.  I thought it would be a good idea to open up a thread to share my sprites and get some help because what's the creative process without constructive criticism? Anyway any feedback would be much appreciated!

Currently I'm working with a 16 color palette that combines and modifies some colors from this palette by Android Arts and the Japanese Machine Palette (JMP):

Okay this should give you an idea of what I'm going for. I have two characters so far; one character is a cute side scrolling platform mascot while the other is a classic fighting game homage. I don't feel like either character is entirely there yet, and I'm not sure about how well they juxtapose. Again, I would really appreciate any and all kinds of comments. Thanks!

I was looking through old stuff and found this. Does anyone have any idea? It's from the old SSB project.

The biggest thing is...I want to get rid of the sel-out as much as I can while still having the sprite stand out on the following backdrops:

The sprite looks particularly messy in this situation:

And that's mainly what I have trouble with right now.

Megaman Legends 2 Models.

I am surprised that nobody had ever done this before.
We all know that with power of nintendo 64 and its megaman legends port we can easily rip models from this game. but a noticed that there is like absolute 0 of models for the second game. of course it's because psx is missing one of three coordinates(Y i suppose?) and everything will be flat in output. but there is that mega rare pc version which was only released somewhere in china that uses DirectX 7 or so. so i tried to launch it on my windows 7 64 it. and... of course it didn't launched properly. i know that i can enable software rendering but i think that ninja ripper wouldn't be able to catch anything in that mode. so i created a virtual machine with my old windows xp disk and tested pc verison in it. thankfully it worked like a charm. so i tried to catch geometry with with ninja ripper and of course it worked. but there was that problem that occurs with old games that the game only render that part of models that can be seen on screen. so if you look on the other side there is actually nothing. so i found an easy solution. i just catched the geometry twice looking on both sides of the model. then i sticked it together and...

Probably There is some minor deformations but in everything looks like a nice clean rip.
Of course this wouldn't work for all models because it's hard to get 2 nice shots from both sides. but for npcs and static objects its okay i think
Of course i can publish it in models resourse if you want.

Hi! I'm relatively new to Sound Ripping, but I wanted the Sound Effects from Star Fox Assault for a project I'm working on and since I couldn't find them anywhere online, I figured that ,since I have the ISO on my computer, I might as well just rip the sounds myself.
So I opened up Dolphin, right clicked the rom, went to properties and clicked on the Filesystem tab where I found all of the games files.
The first folder I found that caught my interest was "BGM" as I figured it stood for "Background Music" so I opened it up and found all of the files were in the format of ".DSP", So from there I found a .dsp to .wav converter (right on these forums actually) and converted the audio to .wav, and what do you know, all of the music sounded perfect!
I got the impression from this that doing the same with the Sound Effects would be just as easy. I figured they would be located in a folder named something like "SFX", I didn't find that but I did find a folder titled "SE" Which still worked as an abbreviation for "Sound Effects".
So (I've said so a lot in this thread haven't I?) I opened the file to instead find various file types, none of which were .dsp, the file types included .c3d, .cbd and .chd, with three versions of each file all in those three file types. Despite this, I tried to convert 1 file of each type, just incase they were sound effects (after all this is my first time doing this sort of thing and I'm still not sure what to do) but, the converter couldn't open or convert any of them, so I figured that this couldn't be the folder with the Sound Effects in it, so I kept digging through the files but none of the folders or files seemed to be what I was looking for.
The rest of the files are .bin, .nut, .pac .mot, .efb, .fpc, .rel or .dat, and I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for.

Now that I've described my problem, I was wondering if I could possible get some help or maybe even just pointers on something I might be doing wrong.
Thanks. Smile

3DS Debug Application Rips

Hello, I have managed to rip the textures from the 3DS's debugging application, CTRAging. Before I go and make a new game, I wanted to see if I should upload them to tSR in the first place. Here are some of the textures.

Ripping Ninja Storm Battle Sounds

I already found the cutscene dialogue and ougi sounds that were uploaded here but I wanted to also rip the voices used mid-battle. I received advice from someone to use this setup for my xfbin (http://files.gamebanana.com/pms/capture_a61df.png) and it did successfully create a NUS3BANK (https://s24.postimg.org/wjy5vbwkl/NUS3_BANK.png) but I get an error saying 'Unable to open item for playback' when I try to play any of them. Is there any alternative method or way to fix this issue? Thanks

So a friend of mine has figured out the models almost, but we're having trouble with textures. They seem to be swizzled in some way.  Can anyone figure this out?

Hello!
I'm Pikochuhascello, though Lynn works just fine.

I'm going to be getting into 3D game development and animation, and I figured that here, Blender and Unity were good places to start.

As a developer, my two current highest-priority projects consist of a 3D map examination tool (mainly for planning dramatic camera angles and/or fabulous screenshot photography) and basically a re-work of the character dress-up menus from Pokémon Sun and Moon, just for computers with a few extra bells and whistles. Neither project will be released to the public (because of Unity's terms of use and my own will to abide by copyright rules and regulations), but the results will be on my Tumblr eventually.

Here, though, I'd like to rip specifically from the Xbox 360, from a lesser-known party game inspired by a movie - Rio. The character models in that game make for nice rigging references for anyone with a character who uses their wings like those birds do...and besides, there's an audio track that just about everyone on YouTube wants to hear - the no-lyrics version of "Real in Rio" that serves as the game's title theme. And besides, the other songs in the game are fabulous anyways so why not. I might also contribute to the PokéPark area, because the scenery was absolutely stunning in the second installation.

So, um...salutations once more!

Wanted to make sprites in the hope of redoing X1-6 for fun with a more zeroish look. Was hoping to get some good criticism and suggestions on what I could do to make them better. Here's my work so far.

Why Majhost went down

You're reading this right, I have discovered the truth as to why Majhost has been down a very VERY long time. BEFORE I DO THIS THERE IS A DISCLAIMER: If you try and research this for yourself, I and Spritewars is NOT responsible if you get in trouble. I did this for a research reason, and therefore I am exempt from any trouble I might have gotten into with my federal government.. Anywho, here we go:

So we've searched high and low for reasons as to why our beloved Majhost has gone down. Some people had the majority of their things archived. Others, not so much. We noticed that the page says "Down for maintenance" or 403 forbidden. I have done extensive research on this topic, and I have reached out to Kevin Loch (unfortunately, messages to him probably go straight to the spam folder). We first noticed that Majhost's subscription kept getting renewed. From what I understand, there were a few time periods where the website was still accessible through certain means after it got taken offline. However, now those methods are gone. Reiterating what I just said, the subscription keeps being RENEWED. Why though? Why on a website that just says "Down for Maintenance"? There have been rumors as to why it went down, but most of them got shot down. I will shoot a few down for you as well.

R: Hard drive failure
A: Data recovery is rather fast, and he would have broadcast that to the users.

R: He can't keep it up anymore
A: Nope, he keeps renewing the subscription

R: Wiping the drive
A: Would be up again already.

R: He's being a dick
A: This one pisses me off, you'll see why, but no

R: We can use Brickshelf
A: Actually no, someone is removing Sprites from brickshelf, which is a recent occurence.

The true answer that I discovered, which is so blatant, disgusting and surprising is that Majhost was used to host a lot of pornography, including zoophilia, hentai, and a lot of illegal, underage pornography displayed in actual pictures and through hentai. What has happened? Well, seeing as the websites subscription keeps being renewed, chances are he probably had to do some legal things, such as letting the government go through and find out who hosted the CP, and if he got it back, he is carefully deleting all of the bad things from the hard drive. The government might be doing too. To be quite honest, I don't think our things will be gone. However the reason it is taking so long, I discovered through archives. There are thousands. Tens of thousands. Maybe even HUNDREDS of thousands of inappropriate, pornographic and possibly illegal images. This is why it has taken so long, and why the website is still being renewed. The hosting hasn't suspended the website, and we can still see it says down for maintenance.

In short, I'm now almost 100% Majhost is going to be coming back. Each passing day is more promising than the last. There is probably going to be a lot of authentications, and captchas, maybe missing files here or there

I can offer a few answers to the FAQ's:

Q: IS THIS OFFICIAL?!?!?!
A: Far from it. It however, is what makes the most sense, an--

Q: Then it's not real.
--Listen. He keeps renewing the subscription. Why else would he? Additionally, someone is scrubbing sprites from Brickshelf, which is a newer occurence. There were also interesting events which happened on the site. Also the fact that it is always undergoing a 403 error means that someone is doing work behind the scenes.

Q: How do you know this is the reason?
A: Elementary. No seriously. CP is highly illicit everywhere and it was hosted on Majhost because it did not have the authentications Brickshelf had. In fact the issue with Majhost was that it was largely unmoderated and I discovered some things on the deepweb, that pointed to Majhost for being a useful site to post things to.

Q: Mighty dangerous things you discovered there, are you going to get in trouble?
A: No. I didn't break any laws.

Q: Will I?
A: I can't answer that. I don't know what you had there.

Q: The hoster?
A: Seeing as Kevin Loch isn't in jail, probably not.

Q: Will my stuff be there?
A: It's probable unless you broke the law or posted a lot of porn.

Q: What about my account?
A: Also, probable, unless you again, posted a lot of porn or broke the law.

Q: When will this come back?
A: I can't put a date on it. Chances are the government of the USA has yanked account information and went through the hard drive, collecting evidence. The government should in theory have given back the okay files. If he's just deleting them himself, it might take a while.

Q: What would change?
A: I suppose authentication and automatic deletion of inappropriate things.

My first sprite rip.

Hey guys, back with another post, without all the drama that I pulled back then with that game that I was whining about doing. I just ripped sprites from an NES game, Yume Penguin Monogatari, just for the heck of it... as well as edit another sprite sheet adding things the person who ripped it left out. (I did it with YY-CHR.) It's my first sprite rip I've ever did, and I was curious to see how the sprite uploading system works on this site.

So, I've noticed that quite a few games are missing tilesets, HOWEVER, it can be done very quickly.
Colinator27 has developed a tool to take put together tileset sheets from backgrounds.
I've used this tool several times, for Mother 3 tileset sheets.
All you need is the tool, the image from which you want the tileset.

My excuses if this isn't the best post ever, but the main purpose of this is to show you all a cool tool.

Here's the download link: https://github.com/colinator27/remove-ti...duplicates

I was interested in ripping graphics from the Nancy Drew series. Unfortunately, they use a proprietary format, .AVF. There is apparently already a tool for this format, HERtools, but I don't know anything about compiling.

There are some sample .AVF files here.

Please help, these are interesting and popular games.

Hi, KirbyLover2048 here. I want to let everyone know that I will be uploading rips of Abobo's Big Adventure on the PC, but I won't be able to rip every single sprite. I can rip a lot from the game, but I won't be able to get some things from it. Anyway, here's the first sheet that I'll be uploading to The Spriters' Resource. Hope you all are OK with me ripping sprites from the game.
