Extracting .dat files from Legend of Korra by Platinum Studios?

Has anyone out there used MGRR tools to extract .dat files from games made by platinum studios?

I'm using the tools to unpack the .dat files for Legend of Korra to take a look at the model files inside of them, but for some reason the unpacking process in MGRR tools doesn't seem to result in them being placed anywhere after the unpacking process is complete.

The program says the unpacking is successful with no errors, but I can't find the model files anywhere. Here's a screenshot showing what I mean.

Hey guys

Semi-competent traditional artist, beginner at spriting. I decided to try my hand at making a GBA-style sprite of a character of my own creation. Here it is in tiny-o-vision:

.png   SkeleSprite2finalsmall.png (Size: 484 bytes / Downloads: 19)

And here it is blown up a bunch:

.png   SkeleSprite2final.png (Size: 3.27 KB / Downloads: 2)

Would love any criticisms or feedback you have, particularly on shading. I was doing my best to emulate Minish Cap style because I love it. I'm not that worried about strictly sticking to the technical limitations as long as it looks about right.

Edit: The attachments do not appear to be working right, I don't know why this is.

My Next Match Character Names

I don't think I'm good at making character sprites, but I can edit and create HUDs.

If you're wondering, it's Rocket Knight characters with their names in the style of Sonic the Fighters.

my name is desgardes (des)
i am 24 and was on this site around ten years ago when i was 14 lol

yeah when i first joined VGR it was the spriters resource forum pixeltendo run by bacon and rogultgot
some guy named cloud_strife had apparently died, it was weird and i didnt know if it was true but i made him a little pixel grave in my signature
then dazz was still cool he had a sweet thread where we made edits of his base

and star was always trying to make M+L wario up to version 4.0
my biggest bump in popularity was when i made a manga about pixeltendo that opens with pixeltendo 404ing! (weird prediction eh?)

then pixeltendo went through this weird thing where it split into pixeltendo (dazz) and pixeltendo (tyvon) and also
expressochop

but now it seems to be VGR! im sure this place has gone through much since but

so yeah i hope to contribute to this site again
PS

heres what i looked like then vs now lol

Further adventures in beginner spriting

Had a go at spriting up a character of mine GBA-style. Included a couple of versions, would like to know which one you all prefer. In the other thread I posted DioShiba pointed out that my sprite could do with some anti-aliasing and that's probably true here as well, but I'd like to ask for more opinions before I fix that. Thanks!

Black DDS Textures

Hey, I have been converting different GTX files into DDS files using TexConv2, however the textures always come out completely black. After importing it into both Unity and Photoshop, I can tell that the mipmaps appear correctly. Does anyone know why that may be?

Best-looking GBA games

Simple question: What are your picks for the GBA games with the best sprites and textures? I'm getting into spriting and looking for inspiration. Also I just like looking at really nice sprites. Also I just like talking about video games.

My picks are Minish Cap and FRLG.

(Apologies if this is not the right forum, I wasn't sure.)

Hi! I was wondering whether I could extract the folders and files in the .3ds rom without having to follow complicated instructions (having it be simple, basically). All of the tutorials online are either outdated or don't work. They're also hard to come by. Sad

Restoring transparency to N64 rips?

I ripped a model of the "My Room" map from Pokémon Stadium 2 using the VRML feature. There was a UV mapping problem that I managed to fix, but there's another problem I have no experience with. There's a clock on the wall. In the game, it's  round. However, mine looks like this:

How do I make it round again?

Nintendo's Bland New HUDs and UIs

I'm starting to notice a trend with Nintendo that I'm not fond of. It started when I saw the menus and icons on the Nintendo Switch itself. Very flat, no colors, no music... Barebones and basic. I figured "Oh well, they'll probably have themes you can download later."

Then I played Breath of the Wild and saw how flat, basic, and minimal the menus were. The title sceen has no music. The file select is flat black boxes. Okay look at this:

This is the Wind Waker's file select. Very stylistic.

Here's Twilight Princess... very elegant.
[Image: Legend%20of%20Zelda%20The%20Twilight%20P...9-full.png]

I was used to seeing stuff like this from Nintendo. Why did Breath of the Wild get rid of that? So I thought maybe it was just Breath of the Wild. After all it's just one game. But then I saw footage of Super Mario Odyssey and saw something shocking!

This is the HUD in Galaxy 2...

And this is what it looks like when you get a Moon...

Yeesh! What happened? Why did Nintendo decide to go bland, flat, and minimalistic with UI and HUD?

Is this a new thing with them? Will the next Donkey Kong game have menus and icons as basic as these? What do you think?

Take-Two Interactive Has Declared Modding of Its Games Illegal

This really brings my blood pressure to a boil: http://gtaforums.com/topic/889348-take-t...ing/page-1

Basically, about seven hours ago now, the leader of the OpenIV development team broke the news that the OpenIV modding tool has ceased development and distribution in compliance with a cease and desist from Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two, often stylized "T2", is the parent company of one Rockstar Games, most famous for developing and publishing of the Grand Theft Auto series. OpenIV is a modding tool made to be used on any games made using RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine): Grand Theft Auto IV, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire and Grand Theft Auto V.

The C&D basically states that the OpenIV modding tool allows third parties to defeat security features of its software and modifies it in violation of T2's rights. This is utter BS, and if the OpenIV team were willing to take T2 to court they'd likely win. However, the team found it far easier and less wasteful of their time simply to rollover to the company's demands, and it's understandable. However, I can't sit here with this egregious act of anti-consumerist behavior. This is a company which sent a clear message to their consumers that they don't want you to use your legally purchased product in any way they do not see fit. They don't want you to develop tools to help modify products you and many others purchased legally or else they will threaten to take you to court.

I've heard that this is not the first time that this company has hassled modders before, but this opening up a legal precedent that tells other companies that they can do legal saber-rattling against consumers over what they feel is a misuse of their product. This is telling the world that people who purchase goods and services do not truly have the final say over how said goods and services can be used. We saw similar behavior from Digital Homicide regarding Steam reviews late last year, and once news broke out and the public turned against them, they dropped their lawsuit against the Steam users and Jim Sterling.

Considering what this forum is about, and what we dabble in, I feel it is of the utmost importance that we get the news out about this. If T2's actions go without consequence, who knows what they or any other company with a chip on their shoulder might do next.

I know this probably won't help, but someone from GTAForums made this Change.org petition for those interested in it: https://www.change.org/p/gta-v-modding-c...-v-modding

I'd prefer having more people know and directly address T2 on this matter, but I've seen online petitions work before so who knows. I also want to stress that it was Take-Two Interactive, not Rockstar Games, who sent the C&D and deserves to be held accountable.

Nonetheless, Take-Two has told us that they don't want us to modify the games we purchase, and we shouldn't stand for it.

Unity Game - Fishing Planet 3D Models - Ripping Help

Hello,

I'm playing the Free-To-Play game "Fishing Planet" to be exact, since two days.
Who played the game before knows, it have very realistic "Fish 3D Model's". So i now the developers bought the models from "turbosquid",
now I tried to copy the 3d models from the game (So Ripping). I'm using "Unity Studio v0.7.0", it can extract all 3D Models/Textures from all "Not Protected" Unity Games.
And Fishing Planet is a "Not Protected" Unity Game, it existing also a tool to extract all the script's from "Not Protected" unity games. But now the problem is: "All tools can only extract the meshe's from the 3D Models, not the rigged model with all "real" animation's".

Now i need your help, how can i extract rigged 3D models + animation's from a game like "Fishing Planet" (Or only rigged)?

Thanks in advance
