Hello,
I've tried using N3DSCmbViewer, but exporting models through it leads to meshes with no bones and extra vertices. Does anyone know of a better program to extract models out of .zar files?

Binxelview tool for locating image data in files

I made this tool a little while ago to help myself find uncompressed image data, maps, or otherwise look for grid-organized data in files.

Since being able to find sprites in game data files and ROMs was one of the big reasons I wanted the tool, I thought others here might like to know about it:

https://github.com/bbbradsmith/binxelview

Simple tutorial:
  1. Drag the file you want to inspect onto the window (or use the file menu to open it).
  2. Adjust the "width" parameter and look at the data, with the right width images will start to line up.
  3. Once the width is figured out, adjust the height and the starting position to bring the images into alignment.
That's the basic idea. It can handle a lot of different arbitrary formats for packing bits. The default is 8BPP (8 bits / 1 byte per pixel) but the display format is very customizable. If you have an educated guess about the format, you can select that instead. There are presets for the native data formats of a few platforms already, but you can make your own presets too.

For some things, you can just save the images directly out of the tool. I've very quickly found a lot of font sets this way, and it's easy to just resize the window to put them in a nice grid and then save directly out of the tool. Other times it's just a starting point for figuring out where the data is stored, and what format it might be in. For instance, you will normally need to come up with a colour palette for the images separately.

Here's a twitter thread with a few screenshots that kinda show what it can do, and a brief animation showing how I used it recently for finding textures in a Dreamcast game.

It's completely free and open source. No strings attached.

15 or 16 years later

Hey there, I'm pretty old I guess. I've been around this place since it's previous iterations back in '04 or '05. I'm not even sure if anyone I know still comes around, those that I kept in contact with from here I see on facebook and IRL from time to time. But I was chatting with some of those guys and felt a little nostalgic. Because of that chat I decided to dust off the old gloves for the first time in almost a decade, hell maybe even over a decade, and place some pixels down in mspaint. This was a very rough doodle done over my lunch at the office, but I do think I'll keep tinkering with it off and over the next few weeks while I'm on lunch.

Any suggestions on what to fix? I'm sure there's a lot wrong, it's been a very long time. Be blunt and let's see if we can make this something neat!

Possible Super Mario World prototype sprites found? - Please let me know!

Hello, everyone.

I found a guy on Twitter who tweets about prototypes in his collection. His Twitter username is The Video Game Project.

You may know him from this tweet he made April of last year. (Source: https://twitter.com/tvgptweets/status/11...5880583169)

This prototype seems to date back to 10/25/90. About a month or so before the full game released in Japan. He has yet to dump his prototypes online that I know of however, But I looked through his tweets and found something interesting! (Source: https://twitter.com/tvgptweets/status/11...6374543365)

I'm not sure if any of the sprites in this image are from a prototype or not. He said in the tweet's comments that he was comparing the released version of Super Mario World to the prototype.

If anyone knows if the sprites in the image are the same as the final version. Please let me know! Smile

[PSX] Bust-A-Groove models?

Hello all, new to the forum, because I just don't have any options anymore.

I've been attempting to rip the models from Bust-A-Groove on the PSX, with zero luck.

The characters & stages appear to be in a strange .DSF format, and unfortunately I'm not savy enough to reverse engineer the file.

I've tried NinjaRipper, but it didn't work with EPSXE, but it kinda of worked with pSX_1.13 It certainly captures a ton of images (flat) but no actual models, which is a huge shame.

Using Paradox's multi-ripper, you can see the models textures within the DSF files, but not the models themselves.

Searching for DSF 3d modelling gets me an older 3d modelling program, DAZ Studio. Trying the different versions yeilds no results, the program telling that there's no importer for the file found.

There's 1 other thing I've not been able to find, but I honestly doubt that it's something that will work. Something canned Daz Toolbox. Unfortunately, I'm unable to source this program, as it looks like it runs way back to the windows 98 era.

Any help would be appreciated, even to just shoot me down and tell me that getting these models is not possible.

Many thanks in advanced.

How do you rip sprites from the Game Gear?

Hi, I'm SonicFan53! I am actually joining so I can help rip sprites, mainly for 8-bit games. (ESPECIALLY for the more obscure systems, and the Game Gear.) Also, I have a Reddit account, a Twitter account and a YouTube channel. Plus, I wanna upload my own custom sprites when I have the time.

Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection (Switch)

I've been trying to rip the images from the art gallery in the Collection, first uncompressing the .arc files (which all the output .tex are strangely of the same filesize) and then using RTB's Capcom MT Framework (PC and Switch) - TEX to DDS Converter for QuickBMS. (Both the PC and Switch versions of the script) but the .dds output files seem to be invalid.  Sad

Hello. I'm pretty new to this forum. So, I need some help in ripping models from the game, Soulcalibur III for the PS2. I'm trying to do this so that I can port them to a few 3D softwares, like Blender, MikuMikuDance, and Source Filmmaker. I'm trying to rip out the characters and weapons along with their textures. For example, I'm trying to rip out models like Kilik, Maxi, Astaroth, and Tira, but to know avail. I've used Texmod and Ninja Ripper, but nothing seems to be working for me. What should I do? Are there any other things or suggestions I need to do in order for the model and texture ripping to work well?

I've decided to move the rules back to the forum so that they're more accessible and also so we can resume using the thread as a change log. I'll be working on this tomorrow but wanted to make the threads while it was still in my head. For now, you can get to the current rules page by clicking here: https://www.vg-resource.com/rules/

Zoo Tycoon 2 DS

Hello, I've been looking to rip some models from Zoo Tycoon 2 DS, but I'm not sure where to begin. I've looked at some tutorials for ripping DS games, but none of them seem to recognize the file type used as models (.nbma files). I've included a screenshot showing what it looks like from the console tool.

Edit: I forgot to attach the photo. My mistake.
